BACKMASSAGE

Gentle back is the application of touch and


movement to muscles, tendons, and
ligaments without manipulation of the joints.
An effective back massage should take 4 to
6 minutes to provide cutaneous stimulation.
A proper massage not only blocks perception
of pain impulses but also helps relax muscle
tension and spasm. (Potter, 2017; Lynn, 2015)

ASSESSMENT
1. Review patient’s medical record
together with plan of care.

2. Assess the level and characteristics of


pain together with underlying cause.

3.Examine the site of patient’s pain or


discomfort. Include inspection, palpation,
and range of motion of involved joints (if
applicable).
