Teste ANPAD – NOVEMBRO/2020 - Prova de Interpretação em Língua Inglesa

DIRECTION: Read the following text and answer questions 1 and 2.
In September, Facebook sent out a strange casting call: We need all types of people to look into a
webcam or phone camera and say very mundane things. The actors stood in bedrooms, hallways,
and backyards, and they talked about topics such as the perils of junk food and the importance of
arts education. It was a quick and easy gig – with an odd caveat. Facebook researchers would be
altering the videos, extracting each person’s face and fusing it onto another person’s head. In other
words, the participants had to agree to become deepfake characters.
Facebook’s artificial intelligence (AI) division put out this casting call so it could ethically produce
deepfakes – a term that originally referred to videos that had been modified using a certain face-
swapping technique but is now a catchall for manipulated video. The Facebook videos are part of a
training data set that the company assembled for a global competition called the Deepfake
Detection Challenge. In this competition, researchers around the world are vying to create
automated tools that can spot fraudulent media.

DIRECTION: Read the following text and answer questions 3 and 4.
Coronavirus is a public health crisis causing a global economic crisis. Like all emergencies, it
collides with existing health and socio-economic inequalities which mean that although many
people all over the world are now riding the same storm, they are doing so in very different boats.
This is particularly the case for women the world over who, although are significantly less likely to
die from the virus, are already bearing the brunt of the ensuing economic crisis. In the UK, women
are the majority of frontline workers (77%), the majority of low paid (69%), and the majority of
people with caring responsibilities, paid and unpaid. Women do, on average, 60% more unpaid
care work than men, leaving them with less time for paid work. This means they are more likely to
be in poverty, more likely to rely on public services and social security, and more likely to be
exposed to the virus. In fact, new data from the British think tank, Autonomy, showed that of the 3
million people in ‘high risk’ jobs, 77% of them are women. A million of these vital workers are
being paid beneath the poverty line and 98% of these neglected workers are women.

DIRECTION: Read the following text and answer questions 5 and 6.
If you have ever had to repeat “yes” six times to your automated telephone banking assistant,
you’d be forgiven for thinking that automatic speech recognition (ASR) has a long way yet to go.
But it might surprise you to know that computers are now as good as humans at recognizing words
in telephone calls.
But before we discuss more about ASR, let me clarify the difference between speech and voice.
The term “voice assistant” has been coined to describe devices and services for acting on the
spoken word. It’s not a big jump to wrongly describe what they do as voice recognition. However,
it is speech they are attempting to recognize, not voice. Voice recognition is about discovering who
is speaking. Speech recognition is about what they are saying.

DIRECTION: Read the following text and answer questions 7 and 8.
In this paper, we explore how the emotional behavior of a robot affects interactions with humans.
We introduce the EMI platform – an expressive, mobile and interactive robot – consisting of a
circular diff-drive robot base equipped with a rear-projected expressive face, and omni-directional
microphone for voice-interaction. We exhibited the EMI robot at a public event, in which
attendees were given the option to interact with the robot and participate in a survey and
observational study. The survey and observations focused on the effects of the robot’s
expressiveness in interactions with users of different ages and cultural backgrounds. From the
survey responses, video observations and informal interviews we highlight key design decisions in
EMI that resulted in positive user reactions.

DIRECTION: Read the following text and answer questions 9 and 10.
Family firms are as old as “Mom and Pop”. But, there can be problems within such organisations
and, according to research published in the International Journal of Business Continuity and Risk
Management, specific personal motives, organisational opportunities and deviant behaviour can
lead to white-collar crime. Indeed, there are plenty of opportunities, the research suggests, for
family members to defraud their own firm, and thus their fellow family members.
Petter Gottschalk and Cecilie Asting of the Department of Leadership and Organizational Behavior,
at the BI Norwegian Business School, in Oslo, Norway, do not argue that white-collar crime is any
more or less frequent in family firms than it is in “normal” companies. However, their evidence
suggests that it can be easier for a family member within the organization to carry out subterfuge.
