Assessment Details:
Overview
Students will write a Reaction research-based essay. The objective of this paper is
for students to react to a prompt.
You will be required to write a minimum 5-paragraph essay inclusive of:
- Introduction
- Body Paragraphs 1, 2, and 3
- Conclusion

This writing assignment will consist of three stages: Brainstorming + Thesis


Statement, Outline (with source information), and Final Submission.
At each stage of the writing process, you will receive feedback. You will only
receive a GRADE for your FINAL COPY.
RESEARCH: Students are required to use credible resources when conducting
research. Please note that Wikipedia cannot be used. Academic resources include
but are not limited to:
- Academic Journals
- Government websites (Statistics Canada)
- Books
- News websites

Each body paragraph MUST have evidence of research to support your ideas. In
your essay, you must include the following:
- Summaries, paraphrases, or a direct quotation from the original prompt
and at least one additional source
- In-text citations following APA formatting guidelines
- a reference page at the end of your essay following APA formatting
guidelines

All research used for this essay, must be accessible in English.

PROMPT: Students will have the option to choose one prompt from three pre-
determined prompts that will be shared on D2L.

Submission of Each Stage:


You will submit each stage through D2L (Laurentian’s Desire 2 Learn platform).
Evaluation:
You are going to be graded using a rubric.
5% deducted per day for late submission to a maximum of 3 days. After 3 days, a
student will receive a grade of zero.

All stages of this essay must be complete to get a final grade.
