PLANT CELL VOCABULARY
These vocabulary cards can be used in several different ways.
1. Keep as whole pages for a science reference notebook
2. Cut on dotted lines and fold both ends inward to create a
flashcard with the large word on the front and the image/small
words on the back. Laminate or tape these closed.
3. Cut out all cards – large word, image, small words – and use for
matching.

The control center, the “boss”
NUCLEUS
of the cell. It contains the
DNA instructions, like
“blueprints” for everything
the cell makes.
GOLGI BODIES
proteins are packaged for
delivery to other areas of
the cell, or other cells.
VACUOLE
Like an empty courtyard in
the middle of a factory, a
water filled bubble.
MITOCHONDRIA
energy for a cell, like a
“generator” supplying
electricity.
ENDOPLASMIC
A collection of tubes that make,
package, and transport proteins
and fats. It moves chemical
RETICULUM compounds back and forth from
the nucleus.

Controls what comes into the
CELL MEMBRANE
cell, allowing nutrients and
water in, while keeping
harmful things out.
A jelly-like substance
CYTOPLASM
containing water, fats,
proteins, carbohydrates,
and minerals.
This is where photosynthesis
occurs. It contains chlorophyll
CHLOROPLAST which can use energy from
sunlight into energy the plant
can use.
A strong, protective
CELL WALL structure that
surrounds the cell.
