Summer Solstice

PLOT ANALYSIS:

 Exposition:
The Moretas family is prepared to enjoy St. John's Festival today. However, a woman's
screams and wails were heard as Doña Lupeng awoke with a terrible headache. In the dining
room, the three boys already attired in a holiday suit and come crowding around her all at
once. She went to find the ruckus and brought her to the married couple servants, Entoy and
Amada.

 Rising action:
The unusual Guido, Don Paeng's cousin, took part in the Tadtarin (ritual for fertility) and
said something to Doña Lupeng that she found offensive. He also kissed the tips of her feet.
Due to this, The Doña grew curious and became interested in the ritual. 

 Climax:
Doña Lupeng decided to take part in the Tadtarin rite. Don Paeng attempted to stop her,
but she persisted. She immediately joined the dancing women as soon as they arrived at the
scene. Don Paeng tried to stop and withdraw her from the crowd, but a group of women
ganged up on him and end up being beaten.

 Falling Action:
Don Paeng said that he must whip his wife and threatened to beat Doña Lupeng once they
arrived home, but she is not fearful. As the two return home, she then expresses how
she wants to be adored not just respected yet Don Paeng is disgusted that the woman has
been shown adoration, as he believes that love and respect are more befitting.

 Denouement:
Doña Lupeng was successful in commanding her husband to kiss her feet as adoration.
Don Paeng kissed her feet despite his bruised lips because he loves her. She was shocked not
knowing he will actually do it.

Summer Solstice

festival. Donya Lupeng awake faint with the heat, a sound screaming in her
ears. In the dining room, the three boys already attired in their holiday suits,
were at breakfast, and come crowding around her all at once.

Rising Action: Lupeng rushed to the dancing women and then Paeng
followed. Other women notice Paeng, a man in their ritual and end up being
beaten up.

Climax: Donya Lupeng decided to join the Tadtarin ritual. Don Paeng tried to
stop her but the fellow women ganged up on him. It is a pro-woman story. A
tale of a triumphant woman because of Don Paeng’s submission to Donya
Lupeng and the portrayal of women’s reproductive role that made them
rulers of men.

Falling Action: Peng told her that he will kiss the feet of Lupeng even if his
lips were full of bruises. Resolution Paeng kissed her feet despite of his
bruises. Lupeng shocked not knowing that he will actually do it.

Denouement: As the two return home, Paeng says he must whip his wife
because he loves her and feels she needs to be put in her place. To this, she
shouts and says that she wants to be adored not respected. Donya Lupeng
gained control of his husband and made him kiss her feet.
