1 Read and write the headings.

London Planning your journey Buying tickets Stations Trains

Train journeys
1 Planning your journey
Use online maps and timetables to plan your journey in advance.
Check the train website for information about delays to trains.

You can use machines or the ticket office at the station to buy tickets.
You can also use the website to buy tickets online. Remember, it’s
usually cheaper to buy tickets in advance.

Fast trains travel between big cities. These trains usually have wi-fi,
toilets and a buffet car with snacks. Slower trains travel between small
towns. You can usually take a bicycle on these trains.

Main train stations have good facilities. There’s usually a ticket office,
shops, cafés and toilets. There’s often good wheelchair access, too.
Small train stations usually don’t have many facilities.

London has got ten main train stations. You can take the Eurostar from
London to Paris. This journey takes about two hours and fifteen minutes.

2 Answer the questions.

1 Where can you find information about delays? on the website
2 Why is it usually better to buy tickets in advance?
3 Where can you buy food on the train?
4 Which type of station is best for wheelchair users?
5 How long does it take to travel from London to Paris on the Eurostar?

Hi Pablo
I’m really excited about your visit to London! Here are some
directions to help you and your mum get from the airport to my
house.
First, go to the underground station at the airport. Next, buy
two tickets: one adult and one child. Take the dark blue line
to Piccadilly Circus. Then, take the brown line to Kilburn Park.
Finally, take the number 258 bus from Kilburn Park station to
Green Street. I live at 14 Green Street, but I can meet you at
the bus stop. Text me when you arrive.
See you next week!
James
