Chapter I

Introduction

Background of the Study

The two teaching models. The combination of e-

learning and traditional face to face learning may integrate

in teaching and learning process. It is known as blended

learning. Blended learning is the combination of traditional

(face-to-face) and online learning so that instruction

occurs both in the classroom and online. The learning

engagement in the Parang High School G11/12 are changed when

the pandemic starts some of the students are experienced

stress, depression, personal issue, etc. that cause to them

lose their confidence and motivation. Some are motivated to

excel to their studies because it became their free time the

pandemic so some of them are focused on their studies and

getting prepared to upcoming school year.

According to Joanna Poon (2012), both academics

and students found that blended learning provides greater

flexibility for students who learn with learning styles and

study rooms. With the adoption of various delivery methods,

blended learning can successfully improve student experience

and increase their involvement. Whereas, Another study

stated by (Chen & Lu, 2013). To counteract some aspects of

lacking IT literacy it is appropriate to give technical

training and remove fear of technology / equipment

integration Which again can be an indicator of poor

experience for students with high workloads Leading to other

various complications when necessitating accessibility of

computing devices, stable internet connection, reliability

of software/hardware, etc …

Our research is trying to achieve to know the

effects of blended learning to the students of parang high

school because blended learning and we're pursuing it so

that we are able to know how helpful it was for the students

Descriptive method will be employed as the

primary tool to gathered data from PHS-SHS grade 11 students

enrolled in STEM strand for school year (S.Y) 2022-2023. The

method approach adopted for this study has involve data

collection by questionnaire surveys

We conduct this research to know what are the

effects of blended learning to the students since the

pandemic starts and to know the reasons why the performance

of the students is different before lockdown.

Statement of the problem

This research study was conducted to determine the
Effects of blended learning modality on learning engagement
of every PHS grade 11 students, and to distinguish the
engagement of this system form other learning modalities.
This study explores accessibility and resource issues for
students’ blended learning during the pandemic. The research
should also reveal the differetn experience of learner about
the blended learning.

This research focused specifically on answering the

following questions:

1.What is the demographic profits of the respondents in

terms of:
A. Age
B. Sex
C. Academic Strand
2.What is the Academic Performance of:
A.Students with sufficient accessibility and resources for
blended learning are comparable to those who:

B.Students who lack accessibility and resources for blended

learning.

3.Is there a significant relationship between blended

learning and learning engagement of senior high students?

Hypotheses
This study sets forth the following hypotheses tested at
0.05 level of significance:
1. There is no significant relationship between student's
accessibility and resources, and their learning engagement.

2. Blended learning is more distracting and thus badly

affects the student's learning engagment.

2. Blended learning decrease the student's self-discipline

and thus negatively affects their learning engagement.

Scope and Delimitation

The study will cover the determination of effects of
blended learning modality to learning engagement of senior
high students. The primary subjects of this research will
consist of grade 11 Students enrolled inn academic year
2022-2023. The respondents will be limited to ten (10) grade
11 who are in every STEM section of PHS (Parang High school)
Senior high school of the city of marikina in the division
of Marikina, Metro manila.
Moreover, the participants will be purposely selected
refferring to their records of grades in the (unknown
subjects) subject. These students shall give their consent
to the participants of the research study. Each of the
respondents will have a questionnaire to get their attitude
and experience towards the topic, their opinions will be
excluded.
Conceptual Framework
Blended Learning Modality

Effects on the Learning Engagement

of PHS grade 11 Students

Distraction level of Self-discipline of

students students

The concept represent blended learning modality as

independent variable, while the effects on learning
engagement, level of distraction and self-discipline as
dependent variable. We considered level of distraction and
self-discipline as important factors that has signifant
correlation to learning engagement of the students. The one-
headed arrow represent the effect of blended learning
modality. The two-headed arrow represent significant
correlation between the variables.
