Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of computer

game addictions particularly Call of Duty to the academic performance

specifically the grades of the selected senior high students of Alae

National High School. According to the findings of this study, both male

and female were capable of playing Call of Duty. 53% of the sample size

(f-8) were composed of male while the 47% were composed of female. It is

also stated that majority of the respondents that play computer games

particularly Call of Duty were ages of 16-18 and considered to be in

senior high level. The researchers also study the number of hours spent

in playing Call of Duty and the grades of the respondents. It has been

observed that the 53% (f-12) of the sample size got a high general average

in range of 95-85 and only spent between 1-7 hours on playing Call of

Duty. In addition, only 20% of the sample size (f-3) got a low general

average in range of 84-80. With this, the researchers conclude that the

number of hours spent in playing Call of Duty was the factor that affects

the academic performance specifically the grades of the students.

In this investigation, it is also stated that the respondent’s reasons

of playing Call of Duty was to socialize, learn new things and release their

stress and boredom. In conclusions, playing Call of Duty affects

negatively the academic performance specifically the grades of the

students if they don’t know how to manage their time in playing and

studying.
