The purpose of this procedure is to define the inspection, testing, method and criteria for
Installation of UPS System for the project.
2.0 SCOPE
To provide safe working surroundings by establishing a procedure that addresses the sequence
of construction activities for performing Installation of UPS System at Blocks 3 and 4 on Call-Off
basis as follows:

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
The following personnel with the responsibilities entrusted to them shall be responsible for
carrying out the works mentioned in the scope of work.
MATERIALS:
Materials used will be as per the material submittal approved by the CCED and will be as per
the approved drawings in coordination with other services.
Material shall be inspected on receipt in accordance with Project material control procedure (to
be submitted), The QC Inspector shall prepare and maintain records of all inspections and
tests required by this procedure.
STORAGE:
If they are shipped in packs or pallets, each pack of pallet shall be lifted individually with
suitable lifting equipment.
Every precaution shall be taken to preserve their cleanliness before installation.
Store in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, properly protected from construction
activities and weather conditions.
The material received from client shall be stored in designated area of store.
Arrangements shall be made to protect against effects of weather and environment.
7.2 Precautions
7.2.1 Scaffolding
7.3.1 Pre-Installation
All materials and documentation relevant to this particular Section of works will be
checked by the Construction Department and and to be verified/accepted by QC
Inspector prior to the commencement of works ensuring that these are correct type as
reviewed.
Before any permanent works will proceed, pre-inspection on all materials, tools and
access for installation to be carried out.
The name-plates will be checked against the equipment data sheets to ensure
conformity.UPS panels will be inspected against mechanical damages.
Particular attention will be paid to the condition of battery charging panels and U.P.S.
control panels which have panel fascia mounted instruments. Where these panels are
sealed to prevent the ingress of moisture or dust, they shall not be disturbed unless
damage is observed.
Batteries will be removed from their packing cases and inspected for damage. The UPS
shall use Ni-Cd (Nickel Cadmium) type batteries.
Batteries will be returned to their packing cases and stored at a dry, clean and preferably
cool location as per the manufacturer's instruction, in air conditioned rooms at
temperature not exceeding 25º C.
7.4.2 Battery racks will be inspected to ensure they are assembled according to the
manufacturer's instruction and detailed drawings, are properly fixed and are stable.
7.4.3 Battery placement will be checked to ensure the arrangement of the positive and
negative is as per the connection diagram. The final connection will be checked to ensure
tightness and the correct polarity has been followed. The complete arrangement will be
checked to ensure it is clean and as per drawing.
7.5 Battery Charger and Inverter
7.5.1 Base plate, floor fixings etc. will be checked for level and location and fixing
points checked against their position on the respective panels.
7.5.2 Before installing in position, panel sections will be opened up and
inspected for cleanliness and to ensure no foreign bodies are present. Dust will be
removed using a vacuum cleaner or rags as appropriate.
7.5.3 Installation will be witnessed to ensure the equipment is vertical and fixing bolts
tightened. Where equipment consists of a number of panel sections, the assembly
shall commence from the center section. Sections on either side of the Center shall
be alternated, leveled and shimmed as necessary.
7.5.4 The complete assembly will be checked to ensure alignment and level after
tightening of the bolts.
7.6 Inspection
7.6.1 UPS panels will be inspected to ensure there are no loose connections
and properly installed.
7.6.2 The ratings and settings of fuses and protective devices will be checked
against the panel schedule.
All inspection and testing shall be carried out in accordance with specifications. Work shall be
carried out by the experienced site team under the guidance of engineer and shall further be
checked and approved by quality engineer.
During the installation all measures shall be adopted to ensure safe working.
Ensure toolbox talks are conducted as per the activity risk assessment
Permit to work system shall befollowed with due care wherever applicable.
Ensure that the work is done underthe supervision of Supervisor/ Engineer.
All necessary tools are to be takenalong once and for all till the completion of the work .
Adequate drinking water should be provided to the work force.
CCED site management system shall be implemented.
All personal involved shall use necessary PPE.
All equipments shall be inspected by HSE prior to use.
Access and good housekeeping shall be maintained.
Fire extinguisher shall be available at all work fronts.
All activities at heights shall be provided with suitable working platforms.
When working at height proper fall protection measures shall be taken.
All access ladders and scaffoldings shall be secured and safety tagged before use.
Waste management shall be strictly followed to keep the job site neat and clean.
