1.0SCOPE
The purpose of generating this Method Statement is to define the procedure step by step
to implement the correct practices for Safe Work. This method statement explains the detailed
requirements and procedures for the INSTALLATION OF EARTHING & BONDING SYSTEM. The
guidelines contained herein so as to ensure that the job execution complies with the requirements
and serves the intended function to a satisfactory level.

2.0 REFERENCES
Earthing system materials shall include but not limited to the following:

1. Bonding Conductors
2. Earth continuity conductors
3. 150mm2 earth bar risers.
4. 150mm2 copper tape.
5. Earth grid bar.
6. Thermal welding kits and accessories.
7. Lugs, terminals, clamps, accessories etc.
8. Earth pits, earth wells and related accessories
9. Any other material indicated on the drawing or required by BS7430, BS7671.
10. Wire and cable earthing conductors
11. Material: copper - Only copper wire for both insulated and bare earthing conductors in direct
contact with earth, concrete, masonry, crushed stone, and similar materials.
12. Equipment earthing conductors: Insulated with green/yellow color insulation
13. Earthing electrode conductors: Stranded copper cable
14. Bare copper conductors shall conform to the following:
15. Solid conductors: ASTM B3
16. Assembly of Stranded conductors: ASTM B8
17. Tinned conductors: ASTM B33

Project Manager:
1. To ensure that all the preparation and application works are carried out according to the
Contract Specification and with the approved drawings.
MEP Manager:
1. To ensure that the progressing of work is carried out according to the planned program and as
per the approved method of statement.
2. To ensure that all the equipment and materials required to execute the work are available
according to the planned construction program.
3. To co –ordinate with the Main contractor, MEP Coordinator and Safety Officer, for a safe and
proper execution of the works.
Site Engineer:
1. To ensure that the works are carried out according to the Contract Specifications, approved
method statement and the shop drawings.
2. To provide all necessary information and distribute responsibilities to his construction team.
3. To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program and to report to the Project
Manager.
4. To co-ordinate with the safety officer and to ensure that the works are carried out in safe
practicing methods.
Foreman:
1. Foreman will carry out his duties by maintaining continuous coordination with the site engineer
on daily basis and ensure proper distribution of the workforce in the required and planned
locations.
2. To ensure that his assistant foreman/ charge hand is aware of the job requirements and they
have enough information to carry out their duties properly.
3. To ensure in consultation with the site engineer that the manpower involved in the works are
moving as agreed and planned for the work.
4. To ensure that the daily work is progressing as planned and advice the site engineer of any
requirement for additional resources.
5. To control disposal of waste materials according to the instructions received from the site
engineer.
6. To ensure full coordination with the safety officer to maintain safe working and proper
housekeeping of the site, following the approved safety measures and further ensure that all
his working team are aware of the same to prevent accident and losses.
7. To inform the site engineer and of the areas ready for inspection.
8. Distribution and the control of material shall be monitored by foreman and store keeper.

1. Interface with site supervisors on a daily basis to provide proactive technical advice for field
activities.
2. Delegate responsibilities to Junior Safety Officers and Safety Assistants to provide an effective
safety monitoring and supervisor support program.
3. Verify safety precautions stipulated on permits to work, risk assessments and job safety analysis
are being implemented.
4. Verify all scaffolding is tagged and a safe condition.
5. Identify site hazards, non-conformances, corrective and preventive actions and bring them to
the immediate attention of site supervision (and record).
6. Closely monitor high risk activities; confined space entry gas testing and air monitoring, lifting
activities, work at height, movement of abnormal loads etc.
7. Produce pertinent toolbox talks with the assistance of responsible construction supervision
including the identification of proactive and reactive site issues for communication to the
workforce and collection of constructive feedback.
8. Identify additional safety training requirements to be delivered to the workforce.
9. Investigate unsafe acts and conditions and provide solutions to prevent recurrences.
10. Lead Junior Safety Officers and Safety Assistants in an immediate response to incidents and
emergency situations that occur on site, act as emergency marshals and provide first aid.
11. Place safety posters, hazard flashes, site safety campaign promotional material and the results
of safety incentive schemes prominently on site
12. Provide, or where necessary source, training for staff in relation to Health and Safety policies,
practice and procedures
13. Ensure all personnel have the necessary training for the project and new hire safety training
orientation.
14. Generate Accident/Incident Reports and Corrective Actions

5.0 MATERIAL HANDLING AND STORAGE


1. All materials shall be stored within stores in suitably constructed racks. The stores shall be
constructed in a manner that protects all stored materials from the elements. Store the material
in an indoor space. Will not leave them exposed to weather phenomena.
2. Store the materials in a dry place.
3. Fittings should be stored in sheltered conditions that are protected from the weather elements
and accidental damage.
4. Inspection of Materials in Stores
5. Upon receipt of materials on site these will be inspected by the Store man and Site Engineer or
representative, to ensure correctness of materials and quantities.
6. A Material Inspection Request (MIR) shall be issued and all materials will be inspected and
verified by the Site Engineer that they are correct prior to Consultants approval.

6.0 INSTALLATION OF EARTHING & BONDING SYSTEM

Ensure that the work area is ready and safe to start the installation of Earthing and

Lightning Protection System.

1. Ensure the installation of Earthing Systems and Lightning Protection Systems are carried out
in accordance with manufacturer’s installation recommendations, requirement of
Applicable standards and in accordance with recognized industrial practices and specified in
project specification to ensure that installation complies with requirements.
2. Prior to start the installation, refer to the approved shop drawings related to the area
of installation and ensure that required materials are available at site as per approved
material submittals.
3. Ensure the materials are stored properly and there is no mark of damage or deformity of
any kind before issuing the material from site store. All materials and accessories should also
be free of dust, scale, or oil.
4. Ensure that the issued materials are of approved specifications / submittals and as per
the requirement of the area shop drawings. (I.e. Make, size, Model / Type etc.).
5. Concerned Electrical Engineer and site Supervisor shall ensure the locations of all earth pits as
per the approved shop drawings as mentioned in the location drawing. Ensure the location of
earth pits are coordinated with other external services like water supply pipe lines, drainage
pipe lines, gas pipe lines, external lighting systems and other services.
6. The RCC bonded Copper earth rods shall be driven in earth. After achieving a minimum depth
of approximately 12 meters or more, the earth resistance shall be measured. If the
earth resistance value is not satisfactory, the process of connecting further under beneath earth
electrodes shall be continued till specified earth resistance value is achieved. All the values shall
be recorded.

7. The PVC sheathed single core earthing cables of 70 sq. mm sizes shall be laid between SMDB
and Earth Pit and terminated with proper compression type lugs / clamps as per the approved
shop drawings and as per specifications.
8. The inter connection of cable pits / earth bars shall be done as per the approved drawings.
9. All earthing connections shall be made after cleaning the surface thoroughly and
tightness checks for each connection shall be performed.
10. Continuity of earth connections shall be checked for every link in the network.
11. Coordination with architectural and civil services shall be carried out.
12. On completion of total earthing system and testing, reports shall be submitted for approval.
13. The metallic frame of all component of the roof shall be connected to the nearest earth
bar through 70sq.mm cable.
14. 15 Flexible tinned copper earthing braids shall be used for the earthing connections where
there is possibility of expansion / contraction and also where vibrating equipment is installed
of approved size.
15. 16 All earthing connections shall be checked for correct tightness and cleanliness.
16. 17 The earth wire size shall be equal to the phase wire if the conductor cross section is less than
70 sq.mm and shall be half of the phase conductor size for sizes higher than 70sq.mm.

All Cables Laying and Wiring installation will be inspected as per the standards and Specification
and accordance with the sizes mentioned in the drawing.

Monitoring of work Activity Plan

The work activity shall be monitored during operation for any deviation to this work
activity plan and records of these checks noted in the table below.

identifying the operation number affected. The project management team shall be made

9.0 EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

All site personnel are briefed on emergency procedures and arrangements within their safety
induction. Site staff will be instructed that they will be required to clock in or sign in when they
arrive on site and to clock out or sign out when they leave site. This is to ensure that an
accurate picture of who is present on site is maintained at all times and in case of emergency
all site based personal can be quickly accounted for.

10.0 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE PLAN

• Ensure that supervisors clearly understand their responsibility and role in the site emergency
procedures.
• Designate first aid and provide medical supplies and other material and equipment that may
be required for emergency use.
• Determine emergency evacuation routes for work areas and construction site and designate
safe assembly areas.
• Ensure that all site personnel & visitors clearly understand emergency warning siren signals
used at site and the safe assembly areas.
• Designate a supervisor to conduct a head count and give instructions to evacuees as
necessary.
• Post emergency information for each work area on the site.
• Conduct emergency procedure drill periodically.

11.0 EMERGENCY REPONSE PLAN:

12.0 WELFARE FACILITIES

• Toilet and washing facilities shall be provided before the commencement of work and shall
maintain as per OSHMS AD standard & Tawazun HSE and security rules & Regulations.
• Food shall only be consumed in designated properly shaded areas agreed with the prior
approval. No food shall be consumed within the work areas
• All food wastes shall remove immediately, in a hygienic manner, and shall not be allowed to
accumulate.
• Drinking water (cool water in summer) will be made available at site all time. All workmen
will be provided with Laban water, lime juice, electrolytes etc. during summer season and
cleaning the drinking water storage tank routine and as per inspection schedule.
• Resting shed (shaded) should be provided near the work area with adequate seating
arrangements and ventilation facility.

13.0 SANITATION AND HYGIENE MEASURES

In order to provide adequate sanitary conditions for all personnel at site, the following provisions as
part of the temporary facilities to be provided.

• Provision for an adequate supply of potable water.


• Provision for toilets and hand wash basins with soap or liquid
• Garbage disposal and regular collection.
• Proper drainage and sewer disposal.
• Smoking hut
• Rest rooms with necessary ventilation
• Lunch rooms with necessary ventilation
