Assignment 9: Framed Connections

1. Draw neat sketch and explain about various beam-column connections.

2. Draw neat sketch and explain about various beam-beam connections.
3. Draw neat sketch and explain about bolted framed connections.
4. Draw neat sketch and explain about welded framed connections.
5. Draw neat sketch and explain about moment resistance connections.
6. Determine the safe load P that can be carried by the joint shown in the figure 1. The
bolts used are 20 mm diameter of grade 4.6. The thickness of the bracket plate is 10
mm. Take edge distance is 40mm.
7. Determine the safe load P that can be carried by the joint shown in the figure 2. The
bolts used are 16 mm diameter of grade 4.6. The thickness of the bracket plate is 10
mm. Take edge distance is 40mm.
8. Design a bolted bracket connection to support an end reaction of 400 kN because of the
factored loads supported by the beam. The eccentricity of the end reaction is as shown
in Figure 3. The steel used is of grade Fe 410. Use bolts of grade 4.6. The thickness of
bracket plate may be taken as 10 mm. The column section is ISHB250@510 N/m.
