where so required, must be implemented to prevent damage to the
equipment and injury to people.
VILLA SISTEMI MEDICALI designs and builds its devices complying with
the related safety requirements; furthermore it supplies all information
necessary for a correct use.
• use of the MOVIPLAN 800 device for other than its intended use,
• damage to the device or injury to the operator or patient due to
incorrect installation and maintenance performed other than in
compliance with the procedures defined in the Technical Manual
provided with the device or due to incorrect operating techniques,
• mechanical and/or electrical changes made during and after
installation.
Only the authorised personnel can remove the covers and/or have
access to the components under voltage.
2.1 Warnings
The MOVIPLAN 800 is suitable for use in a hospital environment and
cannot be connected to a "domestic" electrical system.
The device has not been designed to be used in the presence of steam,
anaesthetic mixtures which are flammable in air, oxygen or nitrous
oxide.
The operator MUST ALWAYS PAY THE UTMOST CARE when the
motorised mechanisms are activated such as the vertical movement of
the table top or of the column. The red EMERGENCY button on the front
of the device can be pressed in case of danger. This button immediately
stops all movements and all functions and provides the operator with an
important safety tool in addition to the other intrinsic safety devices of
the device.
Before activating the movement of the column, check that the patient is
placed correctly on the table top with the legs and arms inside the
support area.
Although the MOVIPLAN 800 table was designed with a high degree of
protection against electromagnetic interference, it is necessary to install
it a certain distance away from electric energy transformers, continuity
static groups, pack units (walkie-talkies) and cellular phones. Use of the
latter is only permitted at a distance from the device as provided in the
table below.

All parts that come into contact with the patient must be cleaned,
and where necessary, disinfected.
Before activating the X-rays from the generator table, the operator shall
always check the alignment of the tubehead with respect to the image
receptor and should set the maximum aperture of the collimator in
accordance both with the format of the radiography cassette used and
with the distance of the cassette from the focal point of the tubehead.
Use the farthest focal point-skin distance compatible with the X-ray
examination to be performed.

5. PRE-INSTALLATION
The following pages provide instructions for the correct installation of the
MOVIPLAN 800.
The supplier can provide the necessary assistance and technical
servicing as from the pre-installation phase.
The room must be prepared for the installation of the MOVIPLAN 800 as
indicated in the Figure 5-1.
The standard installation of the MOVIPLAN 800 requires the cables to be
enclosed in channels. Please note the maximum distance allowed
between distribution box "B" and distribution box "C" (centre of the
electric cabinet which is available only in the version with elevator).
When installation is required with distances greater than those shown in
the figure, electric connecting cables of suitable lengths must be
requested when issuing the order.
Requirements for a correct installation are:
• Room minimum height of 3 mt.
• For transportation of the machine inside the room, the door sizes
must be as follows:
– 700 mm for the column
– 1200 mm for the packaged materials.
• For models with column (TA and TF), to obtain a proper cable setting
of cables coming from the column, the table must be positioned close
to a wall.
A plastic duct (section 100x100) has to be fixed on the wall aligned
with the center of the rail: its lower end must be corresponding to the
"B" collector on the floor; its upper end must be high enough so that
the cables do not interfere along the entire range of motion of the
column along the rail.

Verify the alignment of all parts, paying especially attention to:
• the alignment of the front rail with the rear rail
• the alignment of the front rail with the table
• the levelling of both rails and the table on the floor.
WARNING:
, Remove the two supports, that are necessary during the shipment,
positioned on the lateral parts of MOVIPLAN 800 base. Do not re-install
the relevant screws.
NOTE:
* Actions described in this chapter have to be carried out only for versions
of MOVIPLAN 800 equipped with column (models TA and TF).
1. Before fitting the tube column onto its rail it is necessary to:
• remove an end-stop from one end of the rear rail in order to allow
the column to slide on
End stop
Figure 6-4
• remove the external cover plate from the rear of the column
• set two counter-weights in position in the column and check the
balancing of the tube cross-arm movement up and down the
column
• lift and secure the cross-arm in its highest position with a clamp
so that the counter-weights are at their lowest position inside the
tube column. In this way, there is less danger of the counter-
weights falling when you position the column.

WARNING:
, Before electrically connecting the MOVIPLAN 800, check that all the
instructions and warnings given in paragraph 5.1 have been complied
with.
Disconnect from the mains before performing any operations having
to do with the electrical wiring of the system.
Table 1
After having connected the power cables, they should be tied together to
prevent accidental contact in case of wire breakage.
Figure 6-17
NOTE:
* In case the voltage selected is 24Vdc the positive must be connected to
X0-5 and negative to X0-6.
WARNING:
, Calibration of the R2 must be made exclusively with the grid in the still
position.
Measure the size of the light image starting from about halfway into the
penumbra. The sizes must be equal to the set values, ± 8 mm.
Check the size of the light field in the various formats indicated by the
knobs for a distance of 100 cm.
WARNING:
, Only in the case of light bulb replacement: adjust the position of the
collimator lamp until these measurements are obtained.
<5mm
NOTE:
* Before aligning the X-ray beam with the current procedure it is necessary
to make sure that the column is perfectly vertical and the X-ray tube is
horizontal; these checks can be easily done using a bubble level.
Tube focus
Collimator center
Correct centering
Figure 7-1
7.5.2 Alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field of the
collimator
NOTE:
* The light beam of the collimator is calibrated in the factory so that once
the alignment between the tube and the collimator is achieved, the
alignment of the X-ray beam and the light field should be granted.
1. In order to check the alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field
of the collimator turn on the collimator light and position 4 radio
opaque objects on the borders of the light field.
2. Make an exposure on a large film positioned on the table top and
check the position of the objects; the max deviation must be less
than 3% of the in each direction and the sum of the deviation along
the two directions must be less than 4%.
3. If the alignment is not achieved within the specified limits (i.e. the
X-ray focus distance from the image plan is different from the
distance of the slot of the lamp) it is possible to act on the lamp of the
collimator, remembering that moving the lamp closer to the mirror
the light field gets smaller, while moving the lamp further from the
mirror the light field gets larger.
Figure 7-2
4. Once the optimal alignment between light field and X-ray beam has
been achieved it is possible to complete the alignment between the
X-ray beam and the image receptor (Potter Bucky – see paragraph
7.6).

WARNING:
, Before making any type of examination ensure that:
• a film loaded cassette is present in the Potter Bucky or in any of the
auxiliary accessories (chest stand, lateral cassette holder, etc.)
• the collimator has been properly adjusted according to the used
cassette format and to the set SID. Use the ruler attached to the
collimator and the light spot on purpose
• the X-ray beam is properly aligned and centered with the cassette
• no object lays between the X-ray source and the patient.
WARNING:
, The duty cycle of the collimator lamp must not be longer than 2
consecutive activation cycle separated by 180 seconds of de-activation
(lamp off).
This duty cycle assure that the parts which may come in touch with the
patient/user do not reach a too high temperature due to the heating
effect of the halogen lamp.
When the table is being used with the Potter Bucky, the X-ray beam
must be aligned with the Bucky and the Source Image Distance adjusted
accordingly as required by the operator for the type of radiographic
projection being made.
With elevating table versions, the table-top height can be adjusted by
using the foot pedals, in order to have the most comfortable working
position.
WARNING:
, The elevator pedals commands directly the elevator motor. Take care to
avoid unwanted movement of the table top caused by accidental pressure
of the elevator pedals.
WARNING:
, During the operation of the elevator make sure that no obstacle is
present in the range of the elevator movement.
Figure 8-10
3. Centre the X-ray beam to the film cassette by unlocking and moving
the Bucky tray longitudinal using the switch.
Bucky tray
Figure 8-11
4. Unlock and move the tube column on its floor rail by pushing the
lock release button on the tube assembly control panel.
Figure 8-12
Figure 8-13
NOTE:
* The distance between the table top and the cassette inserted into the
Potter Bucky is 8cm. As alternative, the distance between the focal spot-
film can be calculated by summing up this 8cm and the distance read on
the collimator measuring tape. For example, to set a focal spot-film
distance of 1meter, set the X-ray tube position at 92cm from the table
top.
WARNING:
, The scale is graduated for the following focal spot-film distances: 80, 100,
110, 180 and 200cm. For distances different from the one previously
listed, the extrapolated formats may not be reliable.
Then, once the area to be irradiated has been collimated by acting on the
dedicated knobs of the collimator, the unit is ready for the exposure.
Figure 8-14
NOTE:
* Moving the column towards the outside of the table, it is possible to lower
the tube below the level of the table top and take exposures of the legs
(knee and ankle) under load with the patient standing close to the Chest
Stand, usually associated with the Bucky table.
WARNING:
, Before cleaning the unit disconnect it from the mains.
Do not let water or liquids enter the unit, as could cause corrosion or
short-circuit.
Clean the painted surfaces, the connection cables and the accessory by
using a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Then wipe with a dry cloth. Do
not use solvents (alcohol, benzine, trichloro-ethylene) corrosive or
abrasive solutions.
Disinfect the table top, the handle of Potter Bucky, the handle of column
pushbutton and the accessory that the patient and the operator used
with a 2% solution of Glutharaldeid.
10. MAINTENANCE
As with any electrical appliance this equipment not only requires proper
operation but also regular maintenance and servicing.
These precautions serve to maintain the system in good working
conditions and operational reliability.
WARNING:
, Metallic friction noises issued from the column may be a symptom of
wear of the counterweight support cables. If this should occur, stop
using the device immediately and contact the Villa Sistemi Medicali
Technical Service Department.
NOTE:
* All component which are replaced must be only original spare parts from
Villa Sistemi Medicali.
The maintenance intervention and replacement of defective parts must be
made exclusively by Villa Sistemi Medicali authorised personnel.
