Good afternoon, Irene, María and I have prepared a presentation about famous

people that we admire and this way you can discover people from new points of
view. Sometimes getting to know someone new through the eyes of a person
makes us have a more open and positive opinion. Surely you will know the people
we are going to talk about and if not, we would like to tell you about them.
In my case, I'm going to talk about Brian May. If you know him, it will be because
he is the guitarist for the rock band Queen. He was born in Hampton, UK, in 1947,
so he is now seventy-four years old. He is still the band's guitarist, despite the
fact that John Deacon, the bass, left after Freddie Mercury's death, and they
continue giving concerts.
In my opinion, Brian May is one of the few people that I could consider a complete
genius. Not only is he one of the best guitarists in history, he is also a renowned
astrophysicist and an inventor who is at the same level as the great scientists of
our days.
He was a boy whose favorite hobbies were playing the guitar and observing
through the telescope. His father was a lover of classical music, so he instilled it
in him as a child. When he was older, he built with his father a guitar made of
recycled materials, whose quality was better than the Fender or Gibson guitars,
which are quite expensive brands. This was also because he couldn't buy an
electric guitar when he became interested in rock, so he decided to build one.
Before playing in Queen, he had a rock band called 1984, in honor of George
Orwell's novel, because Brian May liked his fictional literature. The music band
that he had in school, when these bands usually do not go very far, became the
opening act for Jimmy Hendrix. At twenty-two, Brian May was playing in a Pink
Floyd opening band, graduated with honors, and had started a Ph.D. in
astronomy.
Before dedicating himself only to Queen, at only 23 years old he was already
teaching physics and had published two important investigations in science. He
is considered one of the hundred best guitarists of all time and he is at the level
of Stephen Hawkings. In two thousand and sixteen he was allowed to name an
asteroid, which he called, obviously, Asteroid Freddie Mercury.
For me, Brian May is the clear example of a person who has known how to make
the most of his life, combining all the things he has been passionate for. He has
taken human capacity to the extreme. He has totally been an example for many
people who have wanted to dedicate themselves to music and drop out studies,
showing that both things can be combined. In addition, his volunteer work is well-
known, so he has a good heart and always has his fans in mind. Fame has never
gone to the top of his head. Brian May was a loyal friend who was by the side of
Freddie Mercury when everything was getting complicated and he continues to
cry for him to this day.
Brian May, rock legend and astrophysicist, what else?
