Garbage Segregation
by Gema D. Jarata

One Saturday morning, Maxine went

to her grandparent’s house to help clean the
house. When she reached the house, a lot of
dried leaves and twigs were scattered in the
surroundings. She swept the surroundings
Nabubulok
and put the dried leaves and twigs in one
corner of the place. When she was about to
enter the house, she noticed the used tires
misplaced in front of the house causing an
eye sore. She removed the used tires and Di-nabubulok
placed them near the dried leaves and twigs.

Her grandmother invited her to take breakfast. After they ate, she
volunteered to wash the dishes. She put the waste materials on a plate to throw
later after washing dishes. When she was looking for the garbage bin, she
noticed the old papers and empty bottles around the back yard of the house. She
had also seen two kinds of garbage bins – one for “Nabubulok” and another one
for “Di- nabubulok.” She needs to throw all the thrash in the garbage bins,
segregating the kinds of wastes. Let’s help Maxine segregate the waste materials
and be thrown in the proper thrust bins.
1. What are the waste materials in the story?

2. What are the waste materials to be placed in “Nabubulok” bin? What about in
“Di-nabubulok” bin?

3. What is the importance of segregating the waste materials? Justify.

used for charity purposes and as a fundraising tool by religious organizations and
other groups. Bingo game is overseen and licensed by the Philippine Amusement and
Gaming Corporation.

The Mechanics of BINGO Game:

1. Each player holds a maximum of five bingo cards
2. The caller will shake the jar with the 75 chips and draw one chip at a time.
3. The players will mark their cards with the number being announced.
4. The players will shout "BINGO!" when he get a full line (vertical, horizontal

Nutty But Witty

by Richard O. Dizo

Charlie, a Grade 7 learner from a

general middle-class section, is a nutty kid.
This makes him undesirable to teachers in
some instances. He has an average grade of
86 during his elementary grade. Not bad for
a learner like him. When Charlie is passing
along the corridor of the science section
alone, he feels that his shoelace was
loosened. So, he stops and fixes it. He
notices that the Grade 7 – STE is having an
oral recitation. Out of curiosity, he stands
near the window where the teacher cannot
notice him but far enough to hear the
questions. He looks at his wristwatch and it
is 10 minutes before his next subject.
The teacher asks, “how is 100 written in scientific notation?” The teacher pauses
for a while and then calls someone to answer. Charlie’s answer is 1 x 10 2. It is the same
as the correct answer of the learner called. The teacher gives her next question, “What
is the weight of 1 000 carabaos in scientific notation if each carabao has a weight
equivalent to the product of ten raised to two and 5.43 kilograms?” Charlie gets his
ballpen immediately in his pocket and writes the given in his palm as the teacher
dictates for the second time. After a minute, someone near him is called to answer and
the teacher confirms it is correct. Charlie shouts, “Yes, korek ko met.” (Yes, I also got
it right). Everyone in the classroom looks into where the noise came from. And the
teacher annoyingly calls Charlie’s attention, “Balong (kid), what is that noise all
about?” Charlie immediately runs to their classroom.
At that moment, it seems that there is a smile painted on the face of Charlie.
1. If 100 is equivalent to 1 x 102, how is 1 000 written in scientific notation?

2. The product of ten raised to two and 5.43 is written as .

3. What was the equation used by Charlie in getting the correct answer?
A. a = (5.43 – 102) (1 x 103) B. a = (5.43 x 102) (1 x 103)
C. a = (5.43 ÷ 102) (1 x 103) D. a = (5.43 + 102) (1 x 103)

4. What is the answer of Charlie in scientific notation that made him smile?

5. If 2.3 x 10-4 is written in decimal form as 0.00023, how is 7.8 x 10-6 written in
decimal?
A. 0.0000078 B. 0.000078
C. 7 800 000 D. 78 000 000

Ali’s Morning Dream

by Erliza D. Areola

Ali is a Grade 7-STE learner in a public school. His school is near a very well-
known fast-food chain, a 300-meter or 5-minute walking distance. Chicken and fries
are his favorite. During recess time, he is thinking of his lunch and calculating his
money if it will be enough. Ali has 100 pesos. If chicken and fries cost Php85 and his
tricycle fare will cost him Php30 back and forth, will Ali’s money be enough or not?

1. If Ali will buy chicken and fries that cost Php85, how much will be left from
his money?
2. If Ali will ride a tricycle back and forth to buy his lunch that cost Php85, how
much will be his deficit?
3. If Ali will ride a tricycle in going to buy his lunch and walk in coming back, is
his money enough? Why?
4. If Ali decided to walk, how many minutes will it take him back and forth?
5. What is the average speed in meter per minute from the school to the well-
known fast-food chain?

Just Follow Me
by Erliza D. Areola
Adding integers make you smile

Add same signs thoroughly and keep the sign

But adding different signs don’t be baffled

Because instead of adding you have them subtracted

Then the number with greater absolute value is then followed

Subtracting integers force you to think wiser

Be mindful and careful to the sign of each subtrahend

If the sign is positive, change to negative sign

If the sign is negative, change to positive sign

From then on observe the addition rule and it will be fine

Multiplying and dividing integers are the easiest

For similar signs, just multiply or divide and keep the positive sign

For different signs, multiply or divide and keep the negative sign

Now you know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide integers

It’s now time for you to put altogether the common rule on integers.

Real Numbers for Real Life

In everyday life, we come across with situations that involve real numbers. There
are times when we don't realize it, we are already using its application. As such, here
are some of the examples of problems involving real numbers.
1. Vincent bought an agricultural land in Pila, Luna, La Union for 1.5 million
pesos and after selling it he made a profit of 2 million pesos. How much did
he sell it for?
2. 2358 people went to watch Maid in Malacañang in Robinsons San
Fernando City. There were 496 more children than adults. If there were 185
more girls than boys, how many girls went to watch the movie?
3. The temperature in Baguio was −8℃. It has increased by 10℃ by mid-day.
What was the mid-day temperature?
4. Marc volunteers to make ‘pandesal’ for his math class. Each batch of ‘pandesal’
requires 2 2/3 cups of flour. If he has 32 cups of flour, how many batches of
‘pandesal’ can he make?
5. Mang Anton has square garden in his backyard that has an area of 137 square
feet. What is the approximate length of one side of the garden?

in the same forms. To evaluate how the
learners in Grade 7 – Masigasig understood
15 14 the lesson, Mrs. Cruz gave her class a task
𝜋 ξ4 3 −5 2.777… to perform.
Arranging real numbers in either
ascending or descending order is quite difficult but challenging for Zia Zeny. That is
why, she did her best to come up with her output shown below.

Name: Zia Zeny F. Zolera Grade 7 – Masigasig

Performance Task # 4
Process:
Conversion Reason
3.14 is the approximate value of 𝜋 (pi),
𝜋 ≈ 3.14 hence 𝜋 ≈ 3.141592653589793. ..
The ξ4 is the opposite of getting the
ξ4 = square of 2.
15
Divide 15 by 3 to get the decimal form
=5
3 of the fraction.
14
Convert the fraction into decimal
− = − 2.8
5 number.
2.777… ≈2.78 Round off to the nearest hundredth.
Explanation:
I changed the given real numbers into decimal form. I arranged these
decimals in increasing order. After that, I returned the original form of real numbers.
And this is how I arranged the real numbers in ascending order.
