ABSTRACT

During this pandemic, the use of Facebook in teaching and learning has been practiced. This may
be used for discussion and sharing of resources such as reading materials, presentations, and
other educational materials supplied via Facebook page and messenger by the teacher. Since
then, Facebook has grown in popularity and is now known by people all over the world. Because
of the different platforms that Facebook provides, such as obtaining information, talking with
loved ones, operating and advertising a company for amusement reasons, and many more, using
Facebook has become one of the habits that each individual has been hooked to. Since this
occurrence, Facebook has shown to be useful because it is hassle-free and user-friendly, and it
may also be used in teaching, particularly at this time of pandemic. (De Cock et al., 2014).

According to Boholano, et al. (2021), a number of "activities aimed at improving the quality of
education in the Philippines such as, make funding schools a priority, raise standards for
teachers, community and etc. with the belief that well-equipped teachers can deliver high-quality
instruction, resulting in globally competitive learners." Furthermore, students are increasingly
exposed to using Facebook to communicate, socialize, and learn. Students use Facebook at
school, for example, when they need to contact with their mentors and classmates and to ask for
specific information. In keeping with this, students like utilizing Facebook for social interaction
and pleasure. Furthermore, as stated in the above study, "in light of this pandemic, where social
distancing is required and mass gathering is prohibited, educational institutions are compelled to
continue catering education needs of the students." Facebook played of crucial role in the new
world of education it is already used sending assignments and conduct live discussions via
messenger or Facebook page. Teachers and students are utilizing technology to its fullest
capacity in order to meet the objectives of the lesson. Several studies were conducted about the
use of Facebook in teaching and learning. This study explores the effect of utilizing Facebook in
the new world education to the academic performance of Sto. Niño college of Ormoc

The 1st Year students of Sto. Niño College of Ormoc use Facebook for educational purposes
such as video conferencing in Facebook Messenger, sharing educational content in group
conversations, and so on. Senior High School students stress the use of Facebook because of its
accessibility. It also offers important tools like Facebook Groups and Messenger, which enable
students to create a virtual classroom and use it for academic purposes. Facebook is used as well
in junior and senior high school students to communicate in a variety of ways, including
chatting, video conferencing, publishing photographs and videos, sharing and trading
information, and more. As a result, students develop a fondness for Facebook, which is now
become an integral part of their everyday lives. Sto. Niño students use Facebook for a variety of
reasons, including
enjoyment, school concerns, and many more that might have an impact on their academic
performance.

The researchers discovered that teachers at Sto. Niño College of Ormoc utilize Facebook to
make announcements, keep students update on school events, and send and upload educational
resources, all of which are beneficial to Sto. Niño students learning. Sto. Niño students now
have every reason to check their Facebook account on a regular basis. With this, Facebook has
been an integral part in the daily life of Sto. Niño students to Facebook and reliant on the
services it provides. Aim of this study is to determine the effect of using Facebook in learning to
the academic performance of Sto. Niño students whether positive or negative to become a basis
for decision making whether to incorporate Facebook into the learning process of the students or
not.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We would like to acknowledge and give my warmest thanks to my professor Dr. Freddie Boy G.
Cabonegro who made this work possible. His guidance and advice carried me through all the
stages of writing my project. Thanks to you

We would also like to give special thanks to my family as a whole for their continues support
and understanding when undertaking my research and writing my project.

Finally, I would like to thank God, for letting me through all the difficulties. I have experience
your guidance day by day. I will keep on trusting you for my future.
CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

The purpose of this research paper is to examine the effects of social media usage on academic
performance of Sto. Niño Students during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is hypothesized that
increased social media usage will lead to poorer academic performance, due to distractions and
procrastination. This paper will review existing literature on the effects of social media usage on
academic performance and focus on studies conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is
expected that the findings of this research will provide valuable insight into the best ways to
manage social media usage in order to minimize its negative impact on academics.
ACTION RESEARCH QUESTION

1. Do you prefer face to face classes?

2. Is online class is much harder than face to face?

3. From 1-10 can you rate your satisfaction about the online classes?

4. How do you prefer online classes or face to face classes?

5. Is internet has any effect on your academic studies during online classes?
PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY

The innovation in the education system should be a vital part of improving university efficiency
in the current century. The implementation of innovative tools in universities can bring many
benefits to students and can help the university to produce knowledgeable and skilled students to
fulfil existing and future needs on the job market. According to researchers the innovation should
make a desirable and valuable change. This educational innovation should be able to improve the
current situation. Mykhailyshyn defined the term innovation in education as educational,
scientific, social, technological, administrative and other innovation. In this paper, the authors
concentrated on the technological innovations in education. According to Mykhailyshin,
technological innovation in education is the result of intellectual property transfer into
implementation and applications.

Nowadays in education, technology is the main driver for innovation. According to Serdyukov,
innovation in education is not merely connected with adopting the latest technology. The usage
of new technology in education should concentrate on the facilitation of the learning process to
save time and resources compared to the traditional way of learning.

As schools explore online learning, new and more effective e-learning models are being
proposed. Online learning tools are being developed and practiced in an innovative way.
According to the most effective e-learning models have a well-balanced combination of
synchronous and asynchronous sessions. They provide more desirable ways to learn. Instead of
teaching online all the time, it is recommended to conduct inquiry-based learning. This means
that students receive instructions from online resources or synchronous meetings. Then they
conduct an inquiry, create products (individually or in small groups), and make presentations in
class synchronous meetings. Instead of just lecturing, teachers can create videos of lectures or
find videos made by others and share them. The fundamental point is that there is minimal
benefit and student engagement with teachers giving long lectures all the time—more interesting
and challenging instructional models can be developed.
PLANS FOR UTILIZATION AND DISSEMANATIO

1.Designing interactive learning activities

2.Monitoring students’ engagement and progress in lessons

3. Using appropriate teaching methods and technology

4.Engaging parents and caregivers to facilitate online learning

5.Understanding the key features of the online platforms you are using
