INTRODUCTION
As the world continues to progress, advancement in the use of technologies has
widely expanded and crossed different places around the world. One of the tools that
technology has made is social media. Social media becomes popular these past few years
because of its user-friendly features and platforms, that everyone of any age, culture,
gender, religion, or race can freely and easily use and access. These social media features
and platforms (e.g., Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, Google, etc.) are very
prominent nowadays, and it can’t be denied that many users of these social media
platforms are youths like me because it is used in different purposes such as in education,
work, personal matter, having fun, reaching or accessing people across distances, and
interacting, communicating, and make friends with others across global. And given the
wide reach of social media, and young people often use these social media platforms,
there is no doubt that this has an impact or effects on people. This survey was conducted
last March 12, 2022, with the goal or purpose of determining the effects of social media
on youths, specifically, on the grade 11 STEM-2 students of Arellano University Jose
Abad Santos Campus S.Y. 2021-2022.
Out of 56 students of grade 11 STEM-2, including both online and modular
students, only 33 females and 11 males with a total of 44 students had participated in the
said survey. The survey was done online using a Google form which consists of 19
questions that are both dichotomous and/or multiple choice. The students’ responses were
collected and compiled and undergone through contemplation.

CONCLUSION:
If any conclusion may be drawn from the data given, they are, perhaps, as follows:
 Almost 99% of grade 11 STEM-2 students of Arellano University Jose Abad
Santos Campus were using different types of social networking sites for like more
or less 5 years now with an average daily use of 8 hours a day or more.
Additionally, it is evident in this survey that many students were using 5-10 social
networking sites, and they were using these for different purposes like work,
personal matters, and especially education.
 Students have their purposes for using social networking sites but based on the
results of this survey, more than half of the students who participated in this
survey were using social media to socialize, meet people in different places, and
interact and communicate with them that will eventually build a friendship- nearly
46% of the students believe that friends that were created or meet online were
trustworthy. It is also undeniable that one of the main reasons why students were
using social networking sites is because these sites were very useful in their
studies and in general, in their everyday lives.
 These social networking sites give a positive effect and a huge benefit to almost
85% of students who participated in this survey. Positive effects and benefits
include getting to interact with family, peers, and friends, getting to share
information quickly with just a tap of a hand, they can be able to meet new people
and communicate with them. The process of learning becomes also easier and
wider.
 Above all these positive effects and benefits that social networking is giving, we
can’t still deny the fact that it also gives drawbacks to people, specifically to
students. And based on the results of the survey, nearly 70% of the respondents
agreed that social media gives them also drawbacks, and the worst disadvantage of
this, based on the results, is having a lesser physical activity that may lead to
health problems. It also decreases their social skills- that are sometimes having an
interaction with others already makes them uncomfortable. It was also agreed by
70% of the students that there are related issues in social media or social
networking sites involving privacy matters.
 It was also proven through this survey that there is a great average of students that
were mindful and careful as to what they post or share on social media because
64% of them regretted any information they post or share publicly which is
associated with measuring how matured they are now. 66% of the students let their
parents be aware of the activities they do on social media, and 75% of them were
mindful, careful, and they evaluate first the information they will share or post in
their cyberspaces.
 Lastly, peer pressure was very evident as one of the factors why these students
were into social media nowadays. But above all these, students still see social
networking sites or social media as a very essential tool in today’s life and in their
everyday life.
