SUMMARY

This report discusses the 3rd quarter grades in Science of 100 grade 10 students from 2
schools we surveyed which are the Bangkal High School and Dr. Arcadio Santos National High
School. This research also includes the feedbacks of some grade 10 students about how well they
enjoy studying and learning Science, what are their reasons why they enjoy studying this subject
and what are the topics that interests them in this subject.

Key findings include:

 The records of 3rd quarter grades in Science of 100 students in 2 schools.

 The percentage of students who got low and high grades.
 The percentage of grade 10 students who enjoy and doesn't studying Science.
 The feedbacks of grade 10 students about Science.

The information presented in this report has been gathered from secondary sources, and from the
survey we conducted.

The research has been prepared for submission as Fourth quarter project in English and
Mathematics.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Science education is the teaching and learning of science to non-scientists, such as school
children, college students, or adults within the general public. The field of science education
includes work in science content, science process (the scientific method), some social science,
and some teaching pedagogy. The standards for science education provide expectations for the
development of understanding for students through the entire course of their K-12 education and
beyond. This year has been rough for everyone that’s why we want to know how is the
performance of the students in Science this school year.
INTRODUCTION

Science is one of the oldest and most important academic disciplines, and covers a wide
variety of subjects. According to Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science
is “knowledge attained through study or practice”, or “knowledge covering general truths of the
operation of general laws. Especially as obtained and tested through scientific method and
concerned with the physical world”. Science helps our understanding of the world around us. It
is an intellectual activity carried on by humans that is designed to discover information about the
natural world in which humans live. Everything we know about the universe, from how trees
reproduce to what an atom is made up of, is the result of scientific research and experiment. In
schools across the world, Science is typically initially broken down into the 3 classical fields:
Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Biology is a branch of science that deals with living organisms
and their vital processes. It is defined as the science of life and living organisms. On the other
hand, Chemistry talks about the properties, composition and structure of substances such as
elements and compounds. It is the study of matter and how these substances, compositions and
structures undergoes chemical changes and reactions. Lastly physics, Physics is also a branch of
science which study the physical and natural world, which deals with natural phenomena and
other concepts such as force, energy, mass and charge, the goal of physics is for us to understand
the natural world. Learning and understanding the depth of science allows us to know about the
world we live in, it teaches us on how the natural world got to be the way it is, how species and
organisms survive, on how do we survive and how we are continuously living.

Grades are important. Grades aren’t everything, but grades are a means used to identify the
level of understanding of the lesson learning objectives or goals set for a class. It also provides
an indication of the how well a student will progress in learning higher levels of required
material. While we can argue in the fairness or not, it’s a standard means that is used by all forms
of testing or performance in everyday life, work and even if you aren’t involved in anything.
Grades give students a specific objective, and helps them to work towards it. To get high grades,
one must work hard (a very useful trait). It also develops the idea of having a specific standard of
excellence (another useful trait). We conducted a survey to 100 grade 10 students of both 2
schools which are Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School in Paranaque and in Bangkal High
School in Makati to know their 3rd grading grade in science. Grades may not be particularly
define who we are but the fact that it indicates our performance in school or in work it would be
a great help for us to practice ourselves to aim for more and not just settle for less.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose why we conducted this research is for us to know the 3rd grading

grades of 100 grade 10 students, and to know if they are enjoying to learn and study science.

METHODOLOGY
Information for this report was sourced from various secondary sources, all listed in the
Reference List. We created a google form in which we put the questions and passed it to the
grade 10 students we know in that particular school . Data collected from the survey we
conducted are merely based on facts and verifiable for it is came personally from the student we
asked.

The data collected were as follows:

78 79 80 81 81 82 82 82 83 84 84 84 84 84 85 85 85 85 85

85 86 86 87 88 88 88 88 89 89 89 90 90 90 90 90 90 91 91

98 98 98 98 98

MEAN = 78 + 79 + 80 + 81 + 81 + 82 ……….+ 98 = 9,111/ 100 = 91.11

MODE = 91 and 95 ( they are equal)

RANGE = 98 – 78 = 20

Q1. Do you like studying or learning science? Yes or No?

Q2. Reason why do you like or don't like studying science

Q3. If your answer is yes, what are the topics that interests you and you enjoyed the most and
why?
if your answer is no, what are also the topics that you don't enjoy and doesn't get your
interest and why?

THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO ANSWERED YES AND NO .

The graph shows that 80. 8% or 35 students out of 36 students who answered the survey enjoy
learning and studying Science. On the flip side, only 2.8% or only 1 person doesn’t enjoy
learning and studying Science.

FEEDBACKS.
EVALUATION

The 100 grade 10 students has an average of 60.6 %.

14% of the students of 100 Grade 10 in Science has a grade of which is equal to or less than
83.9.

86% of the students of 100 Grade 10 in Science has a grade of which is equal to or greater than
83.9.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

In conclusion, this study has shown that the academic performances of 100 grade 10
students this third grading excelled despite of having different kind of learning system this year.
Furthermore, it clearly showed that the students show high performance because they enjoy
learning Science and they are interested in the topics. This result generates a major factor why
almost all of them got higher grades this third grading.

 Grades help students identify where they are in their journey to mastery of important
learning goals. But, just like assessments, grades alone don’t help students improve.
 Comments that identify what students did well, what improvements they need to make,
and how to make those improvements, provided with sensitivity to important contextual
elements, can guide students on their pathways to learning success and ensure that all
learn excellently.
 Checking on students’ learning progress and providing feedback on results is just the
start. Students also need guidance and direction from their teachers about what to do to
get better.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
Mean - is an essential concept in mathematics and statistics. The mean is the average or the most
common value in a collection of numbers. In statistics, it is a measure of central tendency of a
probability distribution along median and mode.

Mode - is the value that appears most frequently in a data set. A set of data may have one mode,
more than one mode, or no mode at all. The mode can be the same value as the mean and/or
median, but this is usually not the case.

Range - is the difference between the highest and lowest values in a set of numbers. To find it,
subtract the lowest number in the distribution from the highest.

Quartile - measures the spread of values above and below the mean by dividing the distribution
into four groups. A quartile divides data into three points—a lower quartile, median, and upper
quartile—to form four groups of the dataset.

Decile - divide a data set into 10 equal parts. • each decile is the value below which a percentage
of the data falls, e.g. from the 1st decile under which 10% of the data falls to. the 9th decile
under which 90% of the data falls.

Percentile - is a score below which a given percentage of scores in its frequency distribution
falls or a score at or below which a given percentage falls. For example, the 50th percentile is the
score below which or at or below which 50% of the scores in the distribution may be found.
