Societal Inequality: The Philippines
• In the Philippines, where more than a quarter

of the country's population of more than 111

million lives below the poverty line, economic

and social inequality is a major problem.

• The Philippines has one of the highest rates of

income inequality in the world, and unless

action is taken, the gap will continue to widen.

Are these present in our country?
• Income inequality is how unevenly income is distributed

throughout a population. The less equal the distribution, the

higher income inequality is.

Income inequality is often accompanied

by wealth inequality, which is the uneven
distribution of wealth.
Are these present in our country?
• Political inequality is the difference brought about by the ability

to access governmental resources which therefore have no civic

equality. In treatment and responsibility differences, some people

benefit more and can quickly receive more privileges than

others.
Are these present in our country?
• Inequality of Opportunities occurs when people who are similarly

situated do not have the same access to a certain opportunity

due to their gender, place they were born, or ethnicity.

Example: When the late Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago was elected

as judge of the ICC. She said “It’s difficult for a Filipino to win an

international election.”

1. Age

2. Profession

3. Wealth
