lesson / a. How many pupils does Mrs. Gallardo have it all?
Motivation 40 is a whole number. It is called base.
b. How many percent of the pupils like Mathematics?
75% is the rate which can be expressed as a ratio or as a fraction
c. How many pupils love Mathematics?
30 is the percentage, it is a part of a whole.
D. Presenting

new lesson

E. Discussing new Read the situation:

concepts and In the class of Ms. May, she divided her student into 8 groups. She presented
practicing new different kinds of fruits and asked each group to choose their favorite fruit. Among
skills #1 the fruits presented, 2 groups choose papaya as their favorite fruit.
Questions:
1. How many groups did Ms. May divided the students?
2. How many groups chose papaya as their favorite?
3. What is the ratio of the number of groups who chose papaya to the total
number of groups?
F. Discussing new Example 1: There were 100 grade 5 pupils who joined a school field trip. Of these 25
concepts and are boys. What percent of the number of pupils who joined the field trip are boys?
practicing new The number of pupils who joined the field trip is 100. Twenty-five are boys. Twenty-
skills #2 five out of 100 are boys.

“Percent can also be expressed in decimal, ratio and fraction.” Percent, decimals,
ratios and fractions are different ways of representing a part of a whole. These can be
converted to one another. From Example 1, we can convert percent to decimal,
divide the numeral by 100 and drop the % symbol. The easiest way to divide by 100
is to move the decimal point to the left two times.
Example:

To convert decimal to percent, multiply the decimal by 100 and add the % symbol.
The easiest way to multiply by 100 is to move the decimal point to the right two
times. Example:

To convert fraction to percent, we first divide the numerator by the denominator.

Then, we multiply the quotient by 100. Lastly, add the % symbol.
Example:

To convert percent to fraction, first we convert the percent to decimal. Then, follow
the steps in converting decimal to fraction. Example: Convert 25% to fraction.

To convert percent to ratio, follow the steps in converting percent to fraction. Then,
the numerator becomes the first term, and the denominator becomes the second term.
Example: Convert 25% to ratio.

To convert ratio to percent, convert the ratio to fraction, then, follow the steps in
converting fraction to percent.
Example: Convert 25:100 to percent.
