Acknowledgement
In perusing the success of this (SBA) as well as the conformity of the tour through PepsiCo

ltd, to Mr. McFarlane I express my deepest gratitude for his assistance along with his

motivation. I would also like to acknowledge the time spent and the accommodation of

PepsiCo ltd for granting the possibility of our visit, providing massive amount of information

to support my research as well as improving my knowledge in many aspects of the company.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this project was based on the requirements of my school based assessment

(SBA) in mechanical engineering. The gathering of the information recorded in this project

came mainly from the sources of research as well as interviews of a selective number of

employed personals. The information reveals aspects of the process on manufacturing

products at PepsiCo ltd.

This company located at; 214 Spanish town road Kingston 11 Jamaica.Pepsi is a carbonated

soft drink that is produced and manufactured by PepsiCo. Created and developed in 1893 and

introduced as Brad's Drink, it was renamed as Pepsi-Cola on August 28, 1898, then to Pepsi

in 1961, and in select areas of North America, Pepsi-Cola Made with Real Sugar as of

2014.HistoryThe drink Pepsi was first introduced as Brad's Drink in New Bern, North

Carolina, United States, in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, who made it at his drugstore where the

drink was sold. It was renamed Pepsi Cola in 1898, named after the digestive enzyme pepsin,

and kola nuts used in the recipe. The original recipe also included sugar and vanilla. Bradham

sought to create a fountain drink that was appealing and would aid in digestion and boost

energy. In 1903, Bradham moved the bottling of Pepsi-Cola from his drugstore to a rented

warehouse. That year, Bradham sold 7,968 gallons of syrup. The next year, Pepsi was sold in

six-ounce bottles, and sales increased to 19,848 gallons.

company like this they have decide to use different machine so that they could increase the

production of items and the increase of income.

The chart below shows how the bottles are made:

Once the bottles were formed they are

washed again then sent to be filled

Once they are filled with their beverages

theyre sealed labelled and packaged for

Environment
The bottles made by PepsiCo are not biodegradable therefore they help to pollute Jamaica.so

they have created a system where they can collect bottles through the partnership of Jamaica

recycling team and ship them to the USA to be recycled. PepsiCo has a sophisticated waste

water treatment plant to handle their waste disposal system. The water which they using the

building is recycled and purified then reused.

PepsiCo also tries to help the communities by help sponsoring various activities such as

festivals, sports or other events in the community including cleaning up. They are alsoapart of

foods for the poor which help schools and community for those in need. They also offer

summer jobs for interns so they get the feeling of what a real job is to motivate them to push

them.
Impact of technology on Employment and

Unemployment

When owning a big company such as PepsiCo they can’t afford to injure their workers or lose

their income so they decide to use new machinery.

Employment
PepsiCo is a large company which produces up to 20 000 bottled beverages a day. They have

realised that the human personal which they use to make the beverages can’t last as long so

they have decided to buy machine which can last longer and which can produce more .But

when a new machine has arrived it doesn’t affect the jobs of the employees because they are

given class to operate them.

Unemployment
At PepsiCo, they try their best to work with their employees in the production of items. But

sometime things happen and a new machine arrives and then it may affect employee’s jobs.

Although this may occur PepsiCo does is that they give their worker training so that in the

event that something happens and they are laid off they have experience of the old and new

way of using the machine.

Legal policies

Types and function of the machine used

1. Blow moulding machine: used to heat the blow moulding materials so that when it is

placed in the casting and compressed it takes the shape of the casting.

2. Sensor driven conveyor belt: the conveyor belt is used to transfer bottles and crates to

their specific area. Whenever the conveyor belt is being used and the line is backed up

it shuts off a certain sector of the belt and alerts the floor worker and fix the solution

then starts.

3. Filler: this machine is used to rinse and seal bottles once created.

4. Wrapper: this machine is able to stack and wrap a crate of 24 or 12 minimum bottles

in under 15 minutes, the machine helps them to save the time it would take for

employees to do.
