EXPERIMENT OBSERVATION INFERENCE

Take a clean dry test

(i) tube, add Zinc Nitrate White powder is Zinc
White colour turns yellow
to it and heat the test Nitrate
tube strongly.

(ii)
Bring a glowing
Rekindles the glowing Gas evolved is
splinter on the way of
splinter Oxygen
the gas

(iii)

Pass the reddish

brown gas through
Liberates violet vapors Gas evolved is NO2.
Potassium Iodide
solution.

2Zn(NO3)2  2ZnO + 4NO2 + O2

RESULT: When white colour Zinc Nitrate is heated it turns into yellow , NO 2
and Oxygen gases are liberated.

4B.Action of heat on Copper Nitrate:

tube, add Copper Blue colour turns Blue powder is
Nitrate to it and heat black Copper Nitrate
the test tube strongly.

(ii) Bring a glowing

Rekindles the glowing Gas evolved is

Pass the reddish
brown gas through

2Cu(NO3)2  2CuO + 4NO2 + O2

RESULT: When Blue color Copper Nitrate is heated strongly it turns black ,
NO2 and Oxygen gases are liberated.
