pump capacity shall be determined by the hydraulic calculation. One duty pump
and one standby pump shall be installed. Jockey pump can be installed to
overcome pressure losses due to leakages. Pressure Relief Valve, Test valves,
OS&Y Gate Valves, Non Return Valves and Alarm check Valves are some of the
valves required with the pump assembly.
169. Fire Extinguisher Spacing: Extinguishers shall be placed so that maximum NFPA 10.
travel distance to the nearest unit shall not exceed 30 m (100 ft).
170. How many point check of Fire Extinguisher monthly check system & write NFPA 10

Procedures. Periodic inspection of tire extinguishers shall include a check of at
least the following items:
(1) Location in designated place
(2) No obstruction to access or visibility
(3) Operating instructions on nameplate legible and facing outward
(4) Safety seals and tamper indicators not broken or missing
(5) Fullness determined by weighing or "hefting"
(6) Examination for obvious physical damage, corrosion , leakage, or clogged
nozzle
(7) Pressure gauge reading or indicator in the operable range or position
(8) Condition of tires, wheels, carriage, hose. and nozzle checked (for wheeled
units)
(9) HMIS label in place
171. Fire Extinguisher Signs: Fire extinguisher identification signs shall be posted NFPA 10.
near a fire extinguisher to easily identify the location (e.g. if the Extinguisher is on
a large pole, the sign would generally be at the top of the pole so it can be seen
from a distance).
172. Fire Extinguisher Placement: The portable fi re extinguisher shall be placed NFPA 10.
near the path of exit travel and it shall be easily accessible.
173. Is a sprinkler system required to be installed on all floors of a high rise NFPA13
building?
Answer: Yes. If the floor level of the highest occupiable floor is equal to or
greater than 23 meters (75 feet) then a sprinkler system is required throughout
the building as per NFPA13
174. If a factory is not in a high-rise building, is a sprinkler system required in Accord Standard
the storage warehouse? Part 3, Section
Answer: No. If the building is not a high-rise, a sprinkler system will not be 3.4.2.1.6
required by the Accord. However, the storage or warehouse shall be separated
by fire rated construction. Fire service rules may require a sprinkler system in
warehouse areas.
Where a separate storage room is not feasible, provide defined storage areas
and limit the storage arrangement as follows:
- Maximum height of 2.4m and maximum area of 23m2
- If sprinkler protected: maximum height of 3.66m and maximum area of 93m2
Separate the areas of unenclosed combustible storage by minimum clear
distance of 3m.
175. If the boiler is located outside of the factory building, is a fire resistive Accord Standard
wall required? Part 3, Section
Answer: Any room or space housing boilers or other heat producing equipment 3.4.2.1.2
shall be separated from other spaces by a minimum 1 hour construction or by a
minimum spatial separation of 3 m (10 ft) where located exterior to the building.
176. REQUIRED FIRE PROTECTION RATING OF FIRE DOORS
• Stairwells (if the building is 4 stories or greater): 1.5 hour
• Stairwells (if the building is 3 stories or less): 1 hour
• Generator Rooms: 1.5 hour
• Transformer rooms: 1.5 hour
• Warehouse and Storage rooms: 45 minutes
177. Are mini boilers allowed to be installed in the production floor close to
the workers?
Answer: Mini boilers are allowed to be installed in the production floor inside
separate room. The wall construction should be 1 hour fire rated and the
openings should be protected by 0.75 hour fire rated assemblies. Structural
column strength should be checked before installation.
178. Amusement Building Exit Marking: Approved exit direction marking and exit BNBC Chapter 4
signs shall be provided. Approved low-level exit signs and directional marking Article 3.16.1.6
shall be located not more than 200 mm above the walking surface and at the exit
path.
179. Exit Sign -The bottom of the sign shall be less than 150 mm or more than 200 BNBC Chapter 4
mm above the floor level. For exit doors, the sign shall be on the door or adjacent Article 3.16.1.5
to the door with the closest edge of the sign within 100 mm of the door frame
180. Daycare. Daycare occupancies which are accessory to other occupancies shall Accord Standard
be located on the ground floor with a maximum travel distance of 9 m (30 ft) or 3.4.2.1.1
may be located one story above the level of exit discharge where direct access
to an exit enclosure is provided.
181. Boiler or furnace rooms. Any room or space housing boilers or other heat Accord Standard
producing equipment shall be separated from other occupancies by a minimum 3.4.2.1.2
1 hour construction or by a minimum spatial separation of 3 m (10 ft) where
located exterior to the building
182. Generators. Generator sets shall be separated from all other occupancy areas Accord Standard
by a minimum 2 hour construction or by a minimum spatial separation of 3 m (10 3.4.2.1.3
ft) where located exterior to the building. Fuel tanks shall be limited to a maximum
2500 L (660 gal) when located in a building with other occupancies. Exhaust shall
be in accordance with NFPA 37. All exhaust systems shall discharge to the
exterior of the building in a safe location
183. Stand pipe system Where required. A Class III standpipe system (both a 40 mm Accord Standard
connection with attached hose and a 65 mm connection) shall be installed 5.4.2
throughout all new and existing buildings and structures where the highest
occupied floor is more than 10 m (33 ft) above grade or more than 10 m (33 ft)
below grade
