Local Food
Local Food
On the one hand, one of the biggest drawbacks of local food is the lack of variety. Consumers will be
limited in their choices because local products are only available seasonally. Therefore, using the local
foods continuously might lead to the bored feeling when eating. Moreover, the quality of the products
has not been tested because most of the local products are produced by family businesses or small
businesses. Choosing a product with poor quality will have a negative effect on the health of consumers.
On the other hand, the benefits of using local products is to help promote economic development and
protect the environment. Economically, consumers will not have to pay transportation and storage costs
as when using products far away. Moreover, when they enjoy buying local, this will create the revenues
for farmers and business owners. This also will promote specialties which become famous in the
country, even exported to foreign countries. Regarding the environment, local eating plays an important
role in environmental improvement. It helps to decrease not only the amount of transport from other
places but also the amount of carbon dioxide emission into the air. This will help protect the
environment and reduce environmental pollution.
In conclusion, local food also has some drawbacks. However, the benefits that it brings outweigh the
disadvantages. They help promote economic development and protect the environment of the country.
