In recent decades, it is said that food travels a long way from the farm to customers.

Some
people believe that it would bring more economic and environmental benefits if people ate
locally produced food. From my point of view, although there are some benefits to this trend, I
would argue that there are far more drawbacks.

On the one hand, there are several advantages when folks consume food that was grown
locally. Firstly, it can generate more income for provincial farmers or companies that enhance
their living standards. This implies that the local economy will develop quickly. In Viet Nam.
Secondly, using local food plays an important role in protecting the environment. When one
consumes foreign food, they have to choose a means of transport such as ships or trains, which
discharge lots of carbon dioxide into the air. This is the opposite when using domestic foods,
the distance that food travels reduces, which means that the amount of carbon emissions
released into the atmosphere during the transportation process also decreases, thereby
improving air quality.

On the other hand, I would argue that these drawbacks are outweighed by the benefits. To
begin with, when the market is dominated by local produce, consumers will have fewer
opportunities to experience healthy food from other countries. Therefore, people can not
ensure a varied diet. For instance, Vietnamese people do not have the chance to eat nutritious
fruits like blueberries, blackberries. In addition, local merchants will take the chance to
manipulate the price if regional foods become dominant. It is true that people who have a low
or medium income, will find it a struggle to afford the products. This also negatively affects
their health and living standards when the food in each meal does not provide enough nutrition
for them.

In conclusion, while I recognize the posible disadvantages of this topic, I believe these cons are
overshadowed by the pros for the aforementioned arguments.
