sanitation conditions in Karali, one of the densest informal settlements in Dhaka, Bangladesh, it
includes findings and contributions from various collaborators. Detailing the main principles for
human waste disinfection, the authors then present a selection of sixteen off-grid toilet systems,
how they work, and their advantages and disadvantages. A comprehensive comparison of the
proposed solutions is also made to show how different systems can be adapted to respective
groups and conditions.

Jaipur - A Planned City Of Rajasthan

Altrim Publishers 2020 ISBN 9788494933011 Acqn 30951
Pb 25x25cm 246pp col ills £36

The Indian city of Jaipur is particularly famous for the strangeness of its monuments and the
predominantly pink colour of its buildings. Yet this book dives into the heart of the city and its
architecture to further examine the history, urbanism, and architecture that have become
symbolic of the old centre of Jaipur. Setting out on an exploration of the city's districts beyond the
palace walls, it offers many discoveries and surprises through direct contact with the urban fabric.
This leads to an improved understanding of why Jaipur is unusual among pre-modern Indian
cities, with its broad avenues dividing six urban quarters, which in turn contain networks of
gridded streets.

Altrim Publishers 2020 ISBN 9788494234262 Acqn 33096
Pb 13x18cm 150pp col ills £29.50

Goa is an extremely biodiverse landscape nestled between the Western Ghats and the Arabian
Sea. It was colonised by the Portuguese until as late as 1961, an era which has left a strong mark
on its contemporary patterns. The settlement fabric of Goa spreads out in a network of villages,
with only a handful of urban centres. Its architecture is characterised by strong Indo-Portuguese
influences and also shows traces of other European architectural styles. The looming balconies,
red-tiled roofs, and traditional hues exist as a retrospective take on these influences. Yet in
contemporary practices there is ample experimentation with materials like coconut wood, laterite,
and mud.

also be found there. This guidebook includes four Auroville itineraries structured around the
experimental township's master plan, which is divided into four zones. A fifth itinerary is located in
Auromodele, which is outside the main part of the city. Likewise, three Pondicherry itineraries
