D. Description
The chemical oxygen generator has a stainless steel housing filled with Sodium Chlorate
(NACLO3). It has an outlet manifold with two fittings for the connection of the mask supply
tubes.
The oxygen generator has a firing pin (at the starter side) which is held by a release pin
that, if removed, starts the oxygen flow.
The release pin has an eyelet for the connection of the mask lanyards.
The oxygen generator has an indicator dot on its starter side (see Fig. 3) that shows the
condition of the oxygen generator as follows:
• If the indicator dot is coloured BLUE the oxygen generator has been BURNED OUT.
• If the indicator dot is coloured PINK the oxygen generator is NEW or NOT USED.
The chemical oxygen generator is located within the container assembly either with its
starter side to the left (for a LH-Oxygen Container) or to the right (for a RH-Oxygen
Container). A black dot, found at the front outside of the door assy, gives also information
whether the container assy is left or right (See Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 that shows a left hand
version).
Page 2

COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
22C15 / 22C22 - 0100 Series
The chemical oxygen generator is installed on an insulation pad below the ejector cradle.
It is attached to the container assembly with a mounting clamp.
The mask assemblies are installed on a ejector cradle of the container assembly. Each
mask assembly is an oronasal phase-dilution type which has a rubber face piece with a
valve housing. It supplies the oxygen flow from its reservoir bag and has a limited dilution
by ambient air. Furthermore it lets escape the exhaled air. The valve housing contains:
• three valves:
- a dilution-,
- an exhalation valve,
- a bag valve.
• a reservoir bag with a supply tube which has a flow indicator that shows the correct
flow oxygen.
An elastic head band holds the mask assembly in place during its usage. A lanyard cord
is attached to the mask face piece and makes the connection to the release pin of the
oxygen generator (Ref. CMM 35-24-03 (FSCM 16827) for more details).
• a container box.
(a) The door is attached to the container box by two spring loaded sliding snap hinges.
The snap hinges are locked when the door is closed. They are unlocked automat-
ically when the door fully opens.
The door has a black marking dot at its outside front edge. It tells you whether an
oxygen container is a left one or a right one. The marking dot shows you the location
of the starter side of the oxygen generator (mask fall axis) within the container box
when the door assembly is closed.
The door has:
• a test lever,
• an ejector cradle.
1 The door locking/unlocking mechanism contains these parts (See Fig. 1 to 3)
• a drive rod,
• 2 spring-loaded hooks,
• a door latching cam,
• a latch release yoke
• a door actuator.
Page 3
35-22-25 Mar 01/2010
COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
22C15 / 22C22 - 0100 Series
The door latching cam and the spring loaded hooks are installed on and operated
by the drive rod. The door latching cam can be operated (pushing down) by a
manual release tool through the manual release access hole (on the left of the
test lever) in the door assembly. This turns the drive rod and unlocks the locking
hooks (Manual Unlocking).
The electrical door actuator is installed on the outer front sidewall with a snap
mechanism. It has the function to unlock the door (its plunger pushes the door
latching cam up from underneath which turns the drive rod and operates the
spring loaded hooks in unlock position) (Electrical Unlocking).
The spring-loaded latch rest yoke is installed direct on the door assembly (behind
the door latching cam). It has the function to reset (pushing down) the plunger
of the door actuator when the door closes.
2 The spring-loaded test lever lets the door open (after manual or electrical
unlocking of the door) some degrees for inspection and testing. It prevents a
mask drop and a repacking of the mask assemblies. Pushing the right hand
side of the test lever lets a tension spring over center and holds the lever at 90°
to the door surface (Test Position).
3 The access hole is used for a manual release tool that is necessary to open
the door assembly manually (e.g. during shop maintenance or a malfunction
of the electrical door latch).
4 The ejector cradle is the support for the mask assemblies. It is installed with
one end on four studs of the door assembly and is attached with four rosette
rings. The other end is attached to the container box by a velcro connection.
• a door actuator,
(c) The door actuator is used to open (unlock) the door assembly automatically when
115 VAC electrical power is supplied to its electrical terminals. It resets automat-
ically when the door assembly is closed (See Para. D.(4)(a)1 for more details) (See
Fig. 2001 of section SCHEMATICS AND WIRING DIAGRAMS).
(5) The different types of OXYGEN CONTAINERS are identified by their specific part numbers,
which contains these informations:

E. Operation
(1) General
The OXYGEN CONTAINER (See Fig. 1) operates as a part of the aircraft emergency
oxygen system. It is installed into the aircraft passenger compartment to supply the
passenger with the necessary quantity of oxygen during emergency.

(2) Door Operation
Made in Germany
GENERATOR-EMER OXY
The lanyards are connected to a release pin that is installed on the firing pin of the oxygen
generator. In this condition the oxygen generator is prepared for emergency oxygen
supply.
A pull to one or all masks removes the release pin and lets the firing pin move into the
oxygen generator. This causes the ignition and reaction of the chemicals within the oxygen
generator and starts the production of oxygen. Once started, the flow of oxygen cannot
be stopped until the oxygen generator is empty (after 15/22 minutes).
The oxygen flows with low pressure from the oxygen generator outlet fittings through the
mask supply tube and the reservoir bag (inflates) into the mask assembly.
A flow indicator installed in the mask supply tubes shows the correct oxygen flow.
The oxygen flows through the reservoir bag and a bag valve (non-return type) into the
mask face piece.

The Attaching Parts are shown directly after the assembly or the part of it. They
are listed under the same indenture number as the item they attach. To indicate
attaching parts the words -ATTACHING PARTS- (located at the beginning of the
parts listed) and three asterisks * * * (located at the end) are used.
The Usage Code links the part to highest assembly on the same figure. This is indicated
by a letter e.g. A,B,C, etc..
If there are more than one main assembly with different item numbers the item number
must precede the letter e.g. 1BDE. Is a part used on all assemblies this column is left blank.
This column contains the quantity of a part listed in the Detailed Parts List. Where the
quantity of an assembly is more than one the breakdown parts will always be shown for
one assembly only.
For quantities which can not be specified correctly (e.g. bulk items) the letters 'AR' - 'As
Required' (bulk items) is used in this column.
For all main assemblies (end-units) and items listed for reference purposes the letters
’RF’ - ReFerence are used.

E. Preparation before Installation on Aircraft - Removal of the -WARNING FLAG ASSY- (See IPL
Fig. 1, 1A, 1B, 1C)
(1) Put the oxygen container on a clean flat surface so that the test lever is in front of you.
CAUTION: THE DOOR ASSY (2-10) IS SPRING-LOADED. IT CAN SNAP AWAY AND PUSH
OUT THE MASK ASSEMBLIES.
HOLD DOWN THE DOOR ASSY (2-10) BY YOUR HAND OR SET THE TEST
LEVER (3-10) INTO ITS TEST POSITION. THEN MANUALLY RELEASE THE
DOOR ASSY (2-10) WITH THE RELEASE TOOL PN E60100-00 THROUGH THE
DOOR RELEASE HOLE.
AFTER RELEASE LET THE DOOR ASSY (2-10) CAREFULLY MOVE INTO OPEN
DIRECTION UNTIL YOU GET ACCESS TO THE WARNING FLAG ASSY (15).
CAUTION: TAKE CARE TO THE MASK LANYARDS. AN ACCIDENTAL PULL CAN REMOVE
THE RELEASE PIN (13) FROM THE OXYGEN GENERATOR ASSY (10) AND
START THE FLOW OF OXYGEN WHICH CANNOT BE STOPPED. THIS MAKES
THE OXYGEN GENERATOR ASSY (10) UNSERVICEABLE.
1 Set the test lever into its test position. This makes sure the door assy stops
at the test position and cannot snap away.
2 Put the manual release tool PNR E60100-00 (See Fig 9001) into manual
release access hole. Then push it lightly down to the cam of the door locking
mechanism. This releases the door assy.
3 Remove the manual release tool PN E60100-00 from the manual release
access hole.
4 Hold the door assy (2-10) down by your hand and set the test button back to
its operational position.
5 Slowly let the door assy (2-30) open until you get access to the safety pin of
the warning flag assy (1-40).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT PULL THE MASK LANYARDS.
AN ACCIDENTAL PULL CAN REMOVE THE RELEASE PIN (1-30) AND
START THE FLOW OF OXYGEN WHICH CANNOT BE STOPPED.
6 Put the mask lanyards away from the warning flag assy (1-40).
(3) Put the mask lanyards away from the warning flag.
(4) Carefully pull the warning flag of the warning flag assy (15) to remove the safety pin from
the firing pin (See Fig. 11001). Remove the warning flag assy (15) from the oxygen
container.
(5) Keep the warning flag assy (15) to be stored for re-use.

TASK 35-22-25-500-801-A01
2. Handling Procedure how to discard a not used Chemical Oxygen Generator
A. General
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE WORKING ROOM IS WELL VENTILATED AND HAVE
A GOOD FLOW OF AIR. THIS IS NECESSARY BECAUSE THE OXYGEN
QUANTITY OF THE AIR WILL BE INCREASED.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO FLAMMABLE MATERIAL IN THE WORK AREA
NEXT TO THE GENERATOR. YOU CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD
The chemical oxygen generator has a stainless steel housing filled with Sodium Chlorate
(NACLO3). It has a release pin that, if removed, starts the oxygen flow.
The chemical reaction within the chemical oxygen generator is as follows:
C. Job Set-up
(1) Read the applicable Specifications of the international regulations (IATA, HMR 49CFR...)
how to handle oxygen equipment, before you start to discard a Chemical Oxygen
Generator.

(1) Remove the oxygen generator from the container assy as specified in section
DISASSEMBLY of this manual.
(2) Put the oxygen generator on a clean table that has a non-flammable surface. Make
sure that there is no flammable material next to the oxygen generator.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE OXYGEN GENERATOR DURING OXYGEN PRODUCTION. IT GETS
VERY HOT THROUGH REACTION OF ITS INNER CHEMICAL MATERIALS. YOU CAN
BURN YOUR SKIN. USE GLOVES WHEN YOUU MUST TOUCH IT. THE OXYGEN
GENERATOR STAYS HOT FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS AFTER IT HAS BEEN BURNED
OUT.
(3) Pull out the release pin of the oxygen generator. This starts the production of oxygen.
(4) Let the oxygen generator cool after it has been burned out.
(5) Put the oxygen generator into a container (barrel) filled with 200 ltr (52.84 US Gal).
This dissolves chemical remaining.
(6) Measure the pH value of the water. It should have a neutral solution (pH = 7). If
necessary, add some common acid to neutralize the basic.
(7) Remove the oxygen generator from the container (barrel) and let it dry in the air.
NOTE: The ingredients of the oxygen generator are now chemically neutral. Chemical remaining
of the oxygen generator are:
