(CROCHET UNICORN WALL HANGER)

<CROCHET UNICORN Lobby’s I Love This Yarn)

– 10-inch Metal Ring (You can buy a 6-pack here if you
WALL HANGER> plan on making a bunch!)
– Tapestry needle
– Yellow Worsted Weight yarn for the horn
– White Worsted Weight yarn for the ears
– Assorted Worsted Weight yarn for the flowers and
fringe. I used Soft Pink, Peach, Ocean, Glacier,
and Orchid all from Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn.
– Scissors
You will need to have the Crafty Boho Wall Hanger
crochet pattern or refer to the free version of the
pattern on my blog here.

Stitch Key (US Terms)

SC = Single Crochet
CH = Chain
YO= Yarn Over
INC= Increase – Put two stitches in the same space. (In
this case, it will be two SC stitches.)
SL ST= Slip Stitch
*= To Be Repeated
Special Stitches
Magic Circle: If you are unfamiliar with the Magic
Circle/Ring method you are welcome to chain 3, join,
and crochet in the circle you created. If you would like
to learn how to crochet the Magic Circle here is an
awesome video tutorial.
Body– Using H (5.0mm) Hook
CRAFTY UNICORN WALL HANGER
Make the body of the Crafty Boho Wall Hanger in the
color of your choosing. I chose white. There is one
Finished Dimensions: 10” in diameter (not including
difference for this pattern though! For row 18 of the
fringe length).
body (the row where you attach it to the ring) instead

– Size H (5.0mm) crochet hook
Row 18: Row 18: *INC, SC 8* around. Join back into
– Size G (4.0mm) crochet hook

– 4-5oz of White worsted weight yarn (I use Hobby

Do this Round 2: Going directly into the top of the first stitch
from round 1. INC, SC 2, INC, SC 2 (8) Move your stitch
Row 18: *INC, SC 2* around. Join back into the first SC, marker into the 8th SC.
CH 1. (120)
Continue moving your stitch marker into the last stitch
Horn– Using G (4.0mm) Hook in each round so you will know where the next round
should end.

Round 3: SC around (8)

Round 4: INC, SC 3, INC, SC 3 (10)

Round 5: SC around (10)

Round 6: INC, SC 4, INC, SC 4 (12)

Round 7: SC around (12)

Round 8: INC, SC 5, INC, SC 5 (14)

Round 9: SC around (14)

Round 10: INC, SC 6, INC, SC 6 (16)

Round 11: SC around (16)

Round 12: INC, SC 7, INC, SC 7 (18)

Horn is made in the round, so there will be no joining Round 15: SC around (20)
and chaining up after each round.
Round 16: INC, SC 9, INC, SC 9 (22)
Round 1: SC 6 into magic ring. Put a stitch marker into
the 6th sc. Round 17: SC around (22)

SL ST into the last stitch (your 22nd stitch from round Round 2: Going directly into the top of the first stitch

Sew in your first tail.
Continue moving your stitch marker into the last stitch

SL ST into the last stitch (your 16th stitch from round

8) and tie off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Scallop Rose (make 5, each one a different color)

Ears are made in the round, so there will be no joining

and chaining up after each round. Make two.

Round 1: SC 6 into magic ring. Put a stitch marker into

the 6th sc.

With the yarn of your choosing, and appropriate hook,

CH a multiple of 6, then add one more CH to the end

for turning. (multiple of 6 + 1)

For my flowers, I used an H (5.0mm) hook. I chained 37

(36 is the multiple of 6 then add 1 to make 37).
Skip the chain closest to your hook, INC (2 SC in the
same stitch) in every CH down. CH 1, turn. (72)

*Skip the first two stitches, 5 DC in the next stitch. Skip

the next two stitches, SL ST in the next stitch. Repeat
from * all the way down the row.

My flower has 12 scallops (or 5 DC clusters) .

Leave a very long tail for shaping our rose and

attaching to the body of the piece.

Thread your long tail onto a tapestry needle. With the

wrong side facing (so your scallops should look like
they are curling away from you), begin to roll your
flower into itself, and stitch it closed as you roll.

Your stitches should go all the way across the base of

the flower, going through lots of stitches along the
way.

I find it easier to look at it from the bottom as I roll and

stitch.

This is hard for me to explain in the written word, so I
included a quick video for this flower linked above. If

ASSEMBLING YOUR UNICORN

Pro Tip: As I was videoing this part of the tutorial, I got
the idea to section off all the parts with stitch markers.
This way let me know where I needed to start and
finish when attaching each piece so they would be
symmetrical.
If you want to use the stitch marker method, watch
the first few minutes of the assembly video above, it’s
super helpful!
Horn
Squish your unicorn horn until its flat, 2D triangle, with
your tail on the right side of the triangle.
Thread your tail onto a tapestry needle, and begin to
sew the stitches of the last row of the unicorn horn to
the stitches of the last row of your body piece.
Remember to go through the “front and back” stitches
of the horn, created when you flattened it.
You should have 11 stitches to attach. (because the
last row had 22 stitches)
Right Ear
The ears are attached the same way as the horn.
Starting at the right-side edge of your horn, count out
4 stitches on the body of your wall hanger. These 4
stitches will be the gap between your horn and right
ear.
Continue counting out 8 more stitches. This is where
you will begin to attach your right unicorn ear.
Thread your tail onto your tapestry needle, flatten
your ear, and begin sewing the stitches of the last row

of the ear onto the stitches of the last row on the
body.
There should be 8 stitches in total. (Because the last
row of the ear had 16 stitches)
Left Ear
Starting at the left-side edge of your horn, count out 4
stitches on the body of your wall hanger. These 4
stitches will be the gap between your horn and right
ear.
Begin attaching your ear in the next stitch (so the 5th
stitch from your horn)
Again, there should be 8 stitches total.
After you sew on all 3 pieces of your unicorn, tie off
and sew in all your tails.
Attaching your flowers
After you make all of your flowers, line them up onto
your wall hanging and decide which order you want
them to go in
Starting in the center, right under your horn, and
working your way out, attach each flower to the body
of your wall hanging.
Here is where I use the tails that were left after making
each flower. I pull both tails down into the body of the
wall hanging, thread the longest tail onto my tapestry
needle, and secure each flower down with a few
stitches.
Tie the two tails of the flower together in a knot, then
sew them into the body of the wall hanging.
Repeat for all flowers.
Fringe
Decide how long you want your fringe to hang down
from the bottom of your wall hanging, and double it.
Mine fringe hangs down about 13 inches. So each
piece of yarn is about 26 inches long.
Pro Tip: Cutting fringe is easier if you use a template,
wrap your yarn around and around your template,
then cut all the fringe at once. I used a tote lid for my
fringe.
Attach fringe pieces in each stitch across the bottom of
your wall hanging.
For a fuller look, I attached one fringe piece in the first
stitch, then two fringe pieces in the second stitch and
repeated that across the bottom.
My fringe was across 36 stitches.
I aligned each color section of the fringe with its
matching color flower.
To attach fringe, fold your fringe yarn in half, insert
your hook into the stitch from the back of your wall
hanging, grab the center of the fringe yarn (where its
folded) and pull it through the stitch (this creates a
loop on your hook).
Grab the fringe yarn with your hook and pull it through
the loop. Repeat for all your fringe.

Optional Tip: You can use a garment steamer to
straighten your fringe, then trim it with some super
sharp scissors for a finished look.
