2 Material properties
2.1 Concrete
Column is designed for M25 grade of concrete. And all other components of plain and
reinforced concrete unless specified in design are M25 grade.
Modulus of Elasticity [Ec]= 5000 √fckN/mm2(Cl. 6.2.3.1, IS 456:2000)
= 25000 N/mm2for M25 grade
Poisson’s Ratio [U] = 0.2
Unit Weight = 25 KN/m3
Characteristic Strength [ƒck] = 25 N/mm2for M25 grade
The structural design strength is derived from the characteristic strength multiplied by a
coefficient 0.67 and divided by the material partial safety factor. The partial factor for
concrete in flexure and axial load is 1.5.

2.2 Reinforcement Steel

Characteristic strength of high yield steel is taken as 500MPa for main rebar and 500MPa
shear rebar and material partial safety factor is to be 1.15.
Modulus of Elasticity [Es] = 2x105 N/mm2
Poisson’s Ratio [U] = 0.3

3 Section Properties
 Size of Members

The preliminary sizes of Beam, Column, and Slab were chosen based on experience.

5 Soil Property Data:

Type of Soil : Preloaded Clay
Type of Sandy Soil: Loose Sand
Water Content condition: Submerged
Unconfined compressive strength : Greater than 4.0

6 Pile Properties and Embed Depth Calculation (Pile 1 and Pile 2)

The height of the soil to be retained above the soil for pile 1 and pile 2 is 6.2m and 6 m
respectively. Hence height difference of 0.2 m is insignificant for the design purpose. Hence,
6.2m height is taken for the design purpose.

7 Pile,Shear Wall and Pile cap design (Pile 1 and Pile 2)

The critical section of the pile of 18 meters long with the shear wall is designed with the help of
ETABs.The spring coefficient were calculated based on the soil test report and applied to springs
in ETABs.
Subgrade Modulus of soil k 7320 kN/m3

8 Design of the Shear wall above Pile 1

The shear wall is designed in the ETABs as shown in figure.

Fig: Design of Shear wall in ETABs

Grade of Concrete of Shear wall: M20

Thickness of shear wall= 300mm
Height of shear wall = 6.2m above ground level
Required rebars as per design : 4500 mm2/ 6m = 750 mm2/m
Provided rebar : 12mm @ 150 mm C/C both ways horizontal and vertical = 1407 mm2/m > 750mm2/m
Hence, O.K.
9 Design of the Pile 1 and Pile 2 and its reinforcement

The pile reinforcements are found from the ETABs model as shown in figure

Fig: Design of Pile and its reinforcement in ETABs

Grade of Pile Concrete : M25

Shape of pile = Circular
Size of pile = 800mm dia
Thickness of shear wall= 300mm
Height of shear wall = 6.2m above ground level
Required rebars as per design : 4021 mm2 for a single pile
Provided rebar : 30 Nos 16 mm = 6030 mm2 > 4021 mm2
Hence O.K
10 Design of the Pile Cap above Pile 1 and Pile 2 and its reinforcement

The slab was modeled reinforcements are found from the ETABs model as shown in figure.

Figure: Pile Cap along with pile

Figure: Bearing pressure at the pile cap

Figure: Maximum Rebar required at the pile cap in mm2/m

Provided thickness of the pile Cap = 600mm

Provided width of the pile cap = 1000 mm
Grade of Concrete = M20
Maximum rebar required = 280mm2/m
Provided rebar in top ,bottom both ways = 12mm dia @ 150 mm c/c = 750mm 2/m > 280 mm2/m
Hence, O.K.
