National Service Training

Program
The Republic Act (RA)9163, an Act Establishing The National Service
Training Program (NSTP) for Tertiary Level Students, was implemented
by the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, allowing the
government to create a program that will encourage the youth to
actively participate in civic welfare and literacy initiatives as well as
defend the country in times of war.

established on 2001 in response to public
clamor for reforms in the Reserved
Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Program.

NATIONAL
DEFENSE ACT

This was established by President Manuel

Quezon on year 1935. This act was intended
for the national defense of our country.

NATIONAL SERVICE
LAW

This was established by President

Ferdinand Marcos year 1980. It
mandated a compulsory national
service to all Filipino citizens.
ROTC UNDER THE
REPUBLIC ACT NO.
7077

This was created by President Corazon

Aquino year 1986 to 1987 and the
objective of this law was tp train all
able-bodied students in tertiary for any
millitary skills in case of war.
NSTP ACT

This was created by President

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo year
2001. A method of making the
former NSTP, which is military
in nature, more relevant to the
changing needs of the period

WHO IMPLEMENTS NSTP?

WHEN WAS NSTP STARTED?

2001 CHED AND

NSTP was started on year 2001. VSU
implemented RA9163, the National
Service Training Program (NSTP) Act
of2001, in May2002, which was signed
into law on January 23, 2002. This
was also the year that the revised
NSTP rules and regulations was issued
and adopted by CHED and DND.
TESDA
REGIONAL
OFFICES
will implement the NSTP. They shall supervise
and monitor the implementation of the NSTP
in their jurisdiction to ensure that the
trainings are carried out in accordance with
the Act's goals. In this regard, periodic
reports must be provided to the CHED, TESDA,
and DND.
