INTRODUCTION
Acharya Sushruta has mentioned 6 karma in Netra Chikitsa whereas acharya Sharangdhara has mentioned 7 netra
kalpa.

तपर्पणं पुटपाकश्च सेक आश्च्योतनांजने ।

तत्र तत्रोप दष्टा न तेषां व्यासं नबोध मे ।।

Acharya Sharangdhara has mentioned the netra kalpas in details than acharya Sushruta. Hence they are more
grahya and helpful.

सेकं आश्च्योतनं पण्डी वडालकस्तपर्पणंतथा ।

पुटपाको अंजनं चै भ कल्पैनर्नेत्रमुपाचरे त ् ।।

TYPES OF NETRA KALPA

1) Seka (Drava)
2) Ashchyotana
3) Pindi
4) Bidalaka
5) Putpaka
6) Tarpana
7) Anjana
SEKA (DRAVA)

● In this procedure medicated liquids are poured on the closed eyes from a height of 4 angulis in a
thin stream all along the eye from kaninika to apanga sandhi.
● Prakara : 1) Snehana - in vataja netra rog ---600 matra

2) Ropana - in raktaja and pittaja netra rog---400 matra

3) Lekhana - in kaphaja netra rog--- 200 matra

● Also useful in balavardhana and chronic netra vikaras like Vedana, ahrustrava, kandu, harshana,
daha.
Ashchyotana

● Application of liquid medicaments into open eyes in the form of drops or bindus from the height of
2 anguls is called as ashchyotana.
● It is useful in acute conditions where prabhut doshas are not seen.
● Prakara : 1) Snehana - in vataja netra rog --- 10 boond

2) Ropana - in raktaja and pittaja netra rog--- 12 boond

3) Lekhana - in kaphaja netra rog--- 8 boond

● Acharya sharngdhar says to never use ashchyotana in night.


● Time: upto 100 matra or 1 minute.
PINDI

● Aushadhaliptha Kavalika is kept on the closed eyes and bandhana is done. Useful in Atiruksha,
Kathina, Netrabhishyand and netragat vrana. Kalka of the aushadhi is made and and the bandhana
is tied with side of aushadhi towards the eyes.
● Vataj abhishyand- eranda patra or multwaka kalka. ( snigdhaoshna)
● Pittaj abhishyand- amla or nimba phala kalka pindi. (shital)
● Kaphaj abhishyand - shigrupatra kalka pindi. ( sukhoshna)
● Raktaj abhishyand - kalka of lodhratwak in kanji . this kalka to be heated with ghruta and this shita
pindi to applied on the eye. (shital)
BIDALAKA

● The procedure of application of medicated paste externally over the eyelids leaving eyelids is
Bidalaka.
● Prakara- 1 anguli thick : uttama

⅓ anguli thick : madhyama

¼ anguli thick : heena

● Bidalak lepa useful in all netra rog: mulethi, gairik, saindhav, rasanjan all in equal quantities with jal.
TARPANA

● It is the most revered kriyakalpa extensively used in netra practice.


● It nourishes the eye,s improves and strenghthens the Drushtishakti.
● It is a procedure in which sneha or ghruta is poured into a pali or well designed around the eye of 2
angul height and made up of masapishti.. The pali should be constructed very carefully so that the
liquid poured in it should not leak out. The sneha or ghruta to be poured should be lukewarm.
Lukewarm ghruta is poured till the eye lashes level with the eye closed. After that the patient is
asked to open and close the eye intermittently and steadily over a stipulated time.
● Afterwards a small opening is made near apnanga sandhi so thet sneha should be drained out.
● Snehadharankala: It is implemented considering Adhishthana, dosha and severity of dosha
prakara.

Kaphaja Vikaras - 600 Matra Kaal

Pittaja Vikaras - 800 Matra Kaal

Vataja Vikaras - 1000 Matra Kaal

● Tarpanavadhi
Vataja - one day - Alpadosha

Pittaja - Three days - Madhyam Dosha

Kaphaja - Five Days - Mahan Dosha


Tarpana yogya :

● Ruksha, Shushka, Kutila(Tedha), Malin, Shirna pakshma, shirotpata, timir, arjun, shukra,
abhishyanda, adhimantha, shushakshipak, akshishoth, vataviparyay.

Prayoga Dravya in Tarpana :

● Triphalaghruta, Patoladighruta, Jeevanthyadighruta, Yashtyadighruta, Mayuradhyaghruta.


PUTAPAKA

● Procedure is same as that of Tarpana, only mansras procured by Putpaka Vidhi is used in place of
sneha or ghruta.
● Types by karma Bheda: Snehana Karma - 200 Matra Kaal

Lekhana Karma- 100 Matra Kaal

Ropana Karma- 300 Matra kaal


ANJANA
● Anjana is the process by which medicine is applied into the eye with the help of shalaka or anguli. It
is normally advised after Ashchyotana vidhi. Anjana is useful in jeernaavastha than teevravastha.
● Types : by kalpana bhed----1.Gutika ( varti or guti)

● Shalka Prakara: Suvarna, roupya, tamra, loha, shrunga, Kansyaetc.
