Activity 1: Ilocos Region


I. Direction: Identify what is being asked to complete the chart about Ilocos
Region.
Provinces- Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, la Union, Pangasinan.

Cities- Dagupan, Alaminos, Batac, Candon, Laoag, San Carlos, San Fernando,
Urdaneta, Vigan.

Dialect- Ilocano, Pangasinan, Bolinao, English, Filipino.

Tourist spots- Calle crisologo, Paoay church, Bangui windmills, pangil rock formation,
Cape bojeador, patapat viaduct, kapurpurawan, kaibigan falls, bantay abot cave, tanap
avis falls.

Famous cuisine- Vigan Longganisa, Ilocos Empanada, Bagnet, Okoy Tiyosko, Poqui
poqui, Dudol, Chichacorn, Sukang Iloko ,Tupig.

Traditions & cultures


- “Bain” is the Ilokano trait for ‘hiya’ or ‘amor propio’ Ilocanosfear of gossip and would
strongly avoid being envied byothers.
-Wedding Tradition – the grooms makes a “panagpudno”(formal announcement) for the
soon-to-be bride’s parentsabout his intention for marrying their daughter.
-Death Tradition – To announce A death of a family member, apiece of ‘atong’ is lit in
front of the deceased house. This is a primary activity administered to determine your
baselineknowledge and preparedness for the lesson.

Activity 2: Cagayan Region

Dialect- Ilocano, Ybanag, Ytawes and Malaueg. Pangasinense, Maranao


II. Direction: Give three (3) famous or unique traditions and cultures in Cagayan
Region. Explain it how it is done or celebrated.
Traditions and culture
– “ivatan” The Ivatan people are an Austronesian ethnolinguistic group native to the
Batanes and Babuyan Islands of the northernmost Philippines. They are genetically
closely-related to other ethnic groups in Northern Luzon, but also share close linguistic
and cultural affinities to the Tao people of Orchid Island in Taiwan.
-“itawis” The culture of the Itawis is similar to that of the Ibanag, but they tend to live
away from urban centers in small settlements. They are known to have moved into the
areas east and southwest of the Cagayan during colonial times.
-“ibanag” Traditional Ibanag practice dictated that families must allow each newborn's
placenta to be carried away by the river as a gift to the spirits of the river. The materials
used in healing or death rituals were also thrown into the river to purify them and carry
away the cause of illness or death.
