3 percent (3:57)... We who are "vegetarians" in the U.S. (WFPB
vegans) represent only 3% of the population. Ninety-seven
percent are therefore other than WFPB vegan. Can you
imagine how the landscape of the health care system would
change if we reversed those numbers?

WS,
Much too optimistic. We should be happy for the
enlightened 3%. Not everyone can be or wants to
be WFPB. I went to Lowe's today to check out the
battery powered, EGO riding lawnmower. There
were cooking grills all over the place.

I certainly agree. Although I do applaud humans for
giving up meat, dairy products are loaded with
saturated fat. Cheese is known

and is incredibly addictive and easy to eat. I am
one of those people who believes that eating dairy
products are worse than eating meat.
Some humans rave that raw dairy has more omega
3's and is lower in saturated fats. I do think it is
healthier, but how much?. To me,
humans eating dairy products is unnatural and
unnecessary for multiple reasons including
hormones.
Unfortunately many studies compare omnivores
with vegetarians and sometimes the conclusions
show that the omnivore diet is not
much worse than the vegetarian one. Some have
shown that omnivores and vegetarians have the
same mortality rates. Peace.

understand how all these studies that
compare meat eaters to vegetarians
have the vegetarians coming out ahead
when they eat cheese, cream, milk,
eggs, etc. If cheese contains 70% fat,
how can lean meat (with the fat cooked

This is true to a certain extent. South Indian food
(where I’m from) is actually mostly vegan. Butter is
not used much and ghee is optional and is used
only if you want to “kick it up a notch”. Very few
recipes call for milk. The only dairy products used
regularly are yogurt (mixed with rice) and milk
(taken everyday with coffee/ chai). Paneer is not
used in traditional South Indian cooking.

Not saying South Indian is inherently healthy but

there’s tonnes of vegan options there. They can get

Interesting, I wondered why the low carbers would say eat fat
and avoid sugar to reduce insulin.

1 • Reply • Share ›

Jonathon Lawrance > Courtnay − ⚑

Because fat does not spike insulin. Any carb
(including the good ones) gets converted to sugar,
spiking blood glucose and insulin levels, meaning
you need to constantly refuel. Insulin is what
makes you fat, that's the traditional role of insulin
(to control fat storage) before we introduced
sugars.

I believe the two best diets are vegan or keto. The two cannot
be done together. The carbs get converted to sugar which
means the body can't process the fat. There needs to be a
study that separates this and clearly compares it (and
completely removes refined carbs from the equation). I was
disappointed when I went through the sources used in this
video. One was only based on two weeks on women and the
other based on minutes in rats. Having converted from 90%
vegetarian diet to keto (mostly seafood keto) I can tell you it
takes about 5 weeks for the body to stabilise and there was a
lot of supplementation required such as
sodium/potassium/vitaminBs. Testing anything at that short
time will obviously show high-fat diets having increased
insulin because the carbs are essentially a drug the body is
coming off and the body is trying to convert to processing the
fats rather than the sugars. Being keto has actually increased
my vegetable/nut consumption but I've removed wholegrains,
high GI veg like pumpkin, most fruit and 90% of legumes. I
would love Dr Greger to look at a diet that could be keto and
takes in everything he knows and see the results.

Yeah agreed I actually don't use the
word keto for my diet because of the
connotations. And yep vegan food is a
joke and unrealistic to live on. I take
parts from everyone I've learned from.
So I smash the veggies such as
cauliflower, avo, salads, brocolli, kale,
cabbage, carrot, seeds, nuts and just
low amounts of potato. Then I buy the
best quality meats I can and no red
meat. So call it what you will but based
on all the research and evidence I've
found I think that works best and it
shows in my health. So I trust Greger for
the veggies part, but not the grains and
carbs part, where I employ keto
scientific data. That study you shared
likely has a lot of poor diets like low carb
could mean a lot of different things..
really you need the veggies and
nutrients or yeah you'll die early. If you
look at the longest life expectancy its a
greek island (I foget the name but Vice
did a story on it) and mostly what they
eat is veggies, cheese, olive oils, herbs
and seafood. And most of all they drink
and relax and laugh all day.

Ugh again with the CVD reversal claims. Going on to say
Ornish showed "opening up the arteries". Really? 3% stenosis
pseudo-regression after 5 years = "opening up the arteries"?
WFPB is so great for CVD, there's no reason to add false
claims of disease regression to what is already an amazing
picture of CVD benefit.

This sounds like the nonsense promoted by
Bellardo and Avi.

The percentage regression was actually 5.5% (in

just one year!) ie down from 40 to 37.8. When only
lesions greater than 50% stenosed were analysed,
the regression was 8.7% - again in just one year.
Why people try to argue that it was only 3% and
that the figures do not represent actual stenosis
regression defies all logic and reason. These are
simply stunning results (even compared to drug
treatment or indeed anything else)..

After 5 yearis, there was even greater stenosis

regression. And let's not ignore (as Bellardo and Avi
do) the accompanying reduction in adverse cardiac
events (people in the control group compared to
the experimental Ornish group had about two and
half times the risk of an adverse cardiac event).

https://jamanetwork.com/jou...

Of course if you are a low carber like Bellardo (and

perhaps make a nice living from inserting stents)
you'd do your darnedest to try to argue that Ornish's
and Esselstyn's results either didn't happen or were
meaningless. As, to be fair, does every other
desperate low carber out there . It just seems
terribly sad to me. ....... arguing that significant
stenosis regression and a significant reduction in
adverse cardiac events don't indicate a regression
of cardiovascular disease.

Perhaps, though, that is how they try to handle the

cognitive dissonance they experience when
scientific studies contradict their low carb beliefs?
Ignore the reduction in adverse events and
concentrate solely on the fact that regression was
'only' in single digit percentages and surely
therefore meaningless. Phew, glad I talked myself
out of that one, huh?

have the facts so wrong in your bashing

close to "low-carbers", though Bellardo
posits that it may be healthy to do a low-
