Vernier Caliper

Name: Nacua, Marvin C. Rating: _____________

Course & Year: BSME 2 Date: September 8, 2022

I. Draw and label the parts of:

a.) Vernier Caliper b.) Dial Caliper c.) Digital Electronic Caliper

II.
1. Describe the principle of:

a. The 25-division vernier

The 25-Division Vernier graduated the same way of an inch micrometer, every inch
decided into 40 equal division and each has a value of 0.025 in. In every small line that
pass the larger line or bar are multiplied by 0.100.

b. The 50-division vernier

Each line of the 50 division vernier represents .050 in, every second line is
numbered and represents .100 in. In reading the 50 division vernier, the larger bar
multiplied by 10 and the small line pass the larger bar is multiplied by 1 and the line
below the large bar or line is multiplied by 0.02.

2. Describe the procedure for reading a vernier caliper.

In reading a vernier caliper read the main scale and look for the last line that visible before the
zero line and multiply their each value and after add the measurements together.

3. What are the following vernier caliper readings?

3.1) 0.733

3.2) 1.772

3.3) 6.267

3.4) 3.399

3.5) 2.362
4. Describe the principle of the metric vernier caliper.
Metric vernier caliper is made with metric reading and they are the same with inch
graduation. The main scale of metric vernier caliper is graduated in millimeters(mm) and
every main division has a value of 10mm. In reading a metric vernier caliper, look the number
that visible before zero mark then multiply to the corresponding value and then add to get the
total measurements.

5. Read the following metric caliper settings.

5.1 59.64

5.2) 1.36

5.3) 75.44
5.4) 30.98

5.5) 85.48
