One of the most oft-used terms after the pandemic is the term “new normal.” The new
normal in education is the increased use of online learning tools. The COVID-19
pandemic has triggered new ways of learning. All around the world, educational
institutions are looking toward online learning platforms to continue with the process of
educating students. The new normal now is a transformed concept of education with
online learning at the core of this transformation.

INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS ONLINE LEARNING

● Online learning is a method of education whereby students learn in a fully virtual

environment.

● In the 1990s with the creation of the internet and utilized in distance learning,
online learning (also called e-learning) is most prevalent in higher education,
enabling students from different geographical areas to engage with an academic
institution and other students online and learn flexibly, at their own pace, while
working towards a degree or certificate.

● Online learning refers to an internet-based learning environment that can connect

students of diverse backgrounds who boast different perspectives.

HOW ONLINE LEARNING WORKS

● Online learning is conducted using google meet and also zoom, it is up to the
lecturer to use which one.

CONTENT 1: DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE LEARNING

Easy to lose focus

● It is very easy to lose focus in digital learning. Since students are just staring at a
screen it can easily feel like students are watching a video on youtube. This
sometimes makes students lose interest in the subject and makes students go off
track without realizing it.

Prevention of cheating is difficult

● Unlike face-to-face learning where teachers can personally monitor students.
Digital learning makes it quite difficult for teachers to assess their students during
exams. The teachers will have no idea if students cheat on the test or not as they
are not physically there to assess them.

Need a good Internet connection

● While online learning is convenient, a student needs a good internet connection
to learn online. If the internet connectivity is not good then a student may miss a
lot of important stuff due to buffering. This also means that students need to pay
money for an internet connection which may become a struggle for some
families.

No face-to-face interaction
● While online learning can be quite interactive these days, through google meet and
zoom, it still isn't the same as sitting in a room with a real person. Simply put, there is no
substitute for interacting with, and learning from, a fellow human.

Affordable
● One of the key points to online learning is that it is much more affordable as

compared to face-to-face learning. The money you spend traveling or buying
uniforms or the money you spent on dorms in face-to-face learning is not seen in
online classes. This makes it possible for students from economically weaker
sections to pursue their dream careers. With online learning, you only need to
pay for university credits saving you a lot of money.

More Easily Communicate With Your Lecturer

● In a face-to-face classroom setting, students will likely only be able to
communicate one-on-one with your lecturer during their designated office hours,
or maybe for a few minutes after class. When online learning, the student will be
able to communicate with your lecturer via WhatsApp or Telegram to get the
feedback the student need or assistance to help improve your online learning
experience.

Can Learn from Anywhere

● Students can study anywhere according to their comfort for example in the
bedroom, living room, kitchen, or outdoors by using platforms such as zoom,
google meet, Webex, Skype, Whatsapp, and Telegram which can be accessed
using a phone or laptop.

Suits A Variety Of Learning Styles

● Every student has a different learning journey and a different learning style.
Some students are visual learners, while some students prefer to learn
through audio. Similarly, some students thrive in the classroom, and other
students are solo learners who get distracted by large groups.

The online learning system, with its range of options and resources, can be
personalized in many ways. It is the best way to create a perfect learning
environment suited to the needs of each student.

Provide an environment conducive to learning

● Parents can provide an environment conducive to learning space for their

children to learn. This way can make them more focused while in online classes.

Motivate them to stay focus

● Online classes sometimes make students lose enthusiasm and stress as well as
lose focus, but this can be overcome with parents’ support such as always
encouraging and motivating their children to stay focused in class.

Make sure they have any materials necessary to complete all assignments.

● make sure they have the materials that they need to join online classes such as
stationery, stable internet connection, phone or laptop, or whatever they need to
complete all assignments.

CONCLUSION

Online education has many pros which have made our lives easier. Especially during
this pandemic when parents are worried about their child’s safety, it has become a
perfect model of education in the eyes of many. College education on campuses with
peers is certainly something that shouldn’t be missed out on as it helps in the overall
development of a student. While pros may outweigh the cons we certainly can’t ignore

the cons too. We should consider both the advantages and disadvantages and work out
the balance between the two so that we can get the best out of both.

Before we end our speech today we would like to share a quote from MAHATMA
GANDHI which is “Learn as if you were to live forever.”
Therefore i think that is all form us thank you for listening and we wish you all a blessed
day thank you.
