Located in the city center of Luxembourg, the Institut français

du Luxembourg mission is to promote the French language and
culture by emphasizing its originality and diversity in the Grand
Duchy of Luxembourg and by strengthening the relationship
between France and Luxembourg in the broad scope of its
expertise.
The Institut français du Luxembourg promotes the French
language as well as higher education and scientific research in
French. It also develops and organises cultural events in all the
areas of artistic creations.

The Institut français du Luxembourg is the official language and

cultural center of the French government in the Grand-Duchy
of Luxembourg. It embodies the excellence in teaching and will
support you in your learning of French.
In order to support you in your different projects, we offer courses
for children, teenagers, or adults in French as a foreign language,
French as mother tongue or French for specific purposes (medical,
legal, business or preparation for competitive exam) whether in-
company or at the IFL.
Our small group courses (3 to 7 learners) provide an ideal
framework to help you improve your speaking ability and develop
your confidence when speaking.

Regardless your place of residence or workplace, the Institut

français du Luxembourg covers a large part of the country to
meet your needs with :
• an offer of general and professional French courses « tailored-
made » ;
• an offer adapted to the learners’ age or level ;
• an offer based on the CEFRL (Common European Framework of
Reference for Languages) which acknowledges your learning
pathway (see page 8).

To support you, the Institut français du Luxembourg puts at your

• qualified teachers, that are regularly trained to continue
developing their skills ;
• dynamic learning methods focusing on the learner and
encouraging him to become actively involved in the learning
process ;
• educational methods focused on oral interaction for an
effective and dynamic learning ;

browse the French language in all its forms (see page 16).

We also offer you many cultural events (movies, theatre plays,

Private courses offer targeted training with teaching adapted to

We offer you French lessons via videoconference using different

tools and adapted materials, allowing you to learn online in a fun
and interactive way.
Your teacher entertains lessons following a method and proposes
various activities: talks, micro-tasks, resources sharing, support
via live chat.

GROUP COURSES FOR ADULTS

1. Intensive sessions
Group intensive course sessions (60hr) are offered throughout
the year. These courses are offered from a beginner level (A1) to
an experienced one (C1). They are all compliant with the CEFRL
and can also be attended to prepare one of the official national
French exams (DELF- DALF, organized by Institut National des
Langues). Each level group is made of 3 to 7 learners.

SUMMER CAMPUS FOR ADULTS

Would you like to quickly improve your French and use your free
time effectively during the summer ? Sign up for the summer
campus.
Accessible from the age of 17, the summer campus gathers all
the particpants of a same level willing to improve their French.
The groups, available from level A1 to C1, are made of 3 to 7
learners coming from various countries, which favours linguistic
and cultural exchanges.

NEW From 6 to 17 years old
As required by the CEFRL, our approach is based on learning
French through tasks.
The approach is based on authentic documents, observation,
reflection, systematization and then the realization of a
communicative task in a playful way. Workshops focus on
developing speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Those
immersion programs are perfectly adapted to the children’s age
and abilities.

WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS

Collective workshops
All kind of playful activities and games are offered to children to
arouse their curiosity, imagination and speaking when learning
French. The activities are specifically designed and adapted to
the children’s age. The sequences we offer aim at developing their
auditory discrimination, their phonological skills as well as their
oral and written expressions. Songs, manual activites, stories and
board games are all offered during theses courses.

COURSES FOR TEENAGERS

Once a week, the Institut français du Luxembourg offers French

courses as a Foreign Language, and French Mother Tongue for
teenagers aged 13 to 18 years old.

Whether beginners or advanced level, teenagers will learn the

language in an enjoyable yet serious way: comprehension,
speaking, reading and writing in French are the aims of the
courses for teenagers offered from the A1 level to the B2 level of
the CEFRL.

Facilitated by teachers who are specialised in teaching teenagers,

these courses are based on a proactive and fun method.

The placement test* enables correct placement in a group
corresponding to your level.**
It is made of 2 parts : a written online assessment and then an
virtual oral interview.
Price: € 20

3. Advantages
Each enrolment allows you to gain access to our online resources
platform Culturethèque.

* Not required for beginners or for anybody able to show a level certificate
dated less than 12 months ago.

** NB, the Institut français du Luxembourg reserves the right to cancel any
course due to insufficient enrolment numbers; completion of the placement
test cannot guarantee access to a group course. In this event, any costs
connected to the placement test remain the definitive property of the Institut
français du Luxembourg with no possibility of refund.

Culturethèque is the online library of the French Cultural
Network. The most important titles from the French press,
comics, novels, works on current themes (such as WWI or
climate), self-training modules, books for French-language
learners, articles on the human sciences, concert recordings,
web documentaries … An online library of 50 000 documents
available 24/7 from Luxembourg and for everybody!
Easy to use, you will access all the resources you want in just a
