COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides a detailed introduction to the main topics and issues in management & organization
theory and practice by illustrating both traditional and contemporary approaches. The course provides a
special emphasis to an understanding of what management is about, what it is for and what it seeks to do.
The course seeks to develop conceptual and analytical skills in both understanding and practice of
management within organizations. It provides an analytical framework to assist students to question and
reflect on management & organizational processes. It promotes the view that managers need to develop a
better view of the organization in order to understand the complexities of the organizational and social
world. It raises issues about the purposes of organization, including functions and roles of management,
internal and external organizational environment, and about current local and global issues in
management. Hence, the course provides a fundamental conceptual understanding of management in both
theory and practice.
This is a basic course that every manager requires irrespective of his/her area of specialization.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: The course aims at:


CO1: Introducing the principles and applications relevant to the functions of management.
CO2: Developing skills necessary to manage resources to achieve organizational goals.
Exploring organizations by broadly focusing on their management, role of the

individuals, businesses and society.
CO4: Providing knowledge about importance of ethical business management practices.
Exploring the role, responsibilities and challenges of a manager, and helping the students
CO5:
in creating their own approach of how to manage their line of responsibility.
CO6: Providing an opportunity to create a linkage between theoretical knowledge and its
practical implementation through assignments and projects.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: After completion of this course, the students will be able to:

Explain how organizations respond to a dynamic environment and identify techniques

Understand how the evolution of management theory and practices contributes towards

Integrate knowledge of the functional areas of business and funnel into a coherent strategic
whole to enable students to see management problems in a holistic perspective and to
