1. Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with various concepts related to business ethics and
sustainability with particular emphasis on the evolving role of business ethics and sustainability in society.
Students will also learn tools to help organizational managers address many of the challenging issues of
business ethics facing our society. Ethics is a system of moral principles governing appropriate conduct of a
person or a group. “Good ethics is good business”. Good ethics not only leads to running a business
successfully, but it also provides many ways for growth and development by leaving a good impression about an
organization in the market. Business sustainability is defined as managing the "triple bottom line" - designing
mission driven enterprises that provide a thriving future for business, society and the planet. To achieve this,
managers must adopt a fresh understanding of the role of the business enterprise. The course will draw from
successful ethical and sustainability efforts of leading business organizations, both locally and internationally,
by identifying key success factors that encourage ethical and sustainable business practices.

After completing this course an understanding should be developed for the business challenges and
opportunities inherent in business ethics and sustainability. In particular, it is expected to:
 Bring together students from varied backgrounds and disciplines to appreciate the interactions between
