Lab 2.1 – Perform DHCP Server Configuration
Duration : 3 Hours

Task 1 – Setup IP Address

1. Assign IP Address to Server and Client according to the Figure 1.

Task 2 : Install DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) Server.

1. Run Server Manager and Click [Add roles and features.

2. Click [Next] button

3. Select [Role-based or feature-based installation]

4. Select a server from the server pool.

5. Check a box [DHCP Server].

6. Addtional features are required to add DHCP Server. Click [Add Features] button and next,
Click [Next] button.

7. Click [Next] button.

8. Click [Next] button.

9. Click [Install] button.

10. After finishing Installation, click [Close] button.

Task 2 : Configure DHCP Server

1. In the server manager dashboard, you will see a yellow notification at the top left. Click on it
Now click on “Complete DHCP configuration”.

3. Click [Next] button.

4. If your Server is Stand-Alone Server, select [Skip AD authorization] and Click [Commit] button.
If your Server is in AD Domain, though current user is set automatically for AD authorization but
if you'd like to change it, set a user for AD authorization and Click [Commit] button.

5. Click [Close] button.

6. Back to Server Manager and open [Tools] - [DHCP].

7. The DHCP management console with server name.

8. Permit (i.e., authorize) a DHCP Server to process DHCP requests from clients. This is necessary
only if the DHCP Server is a member of an Active Directory domain. Right-click on the server and
select Authorize.

9. Right-Click [IPv4] on the left pane and select [New Scope...].

10. Click [Next] button.

11. Input any name and description for this scope. Example : Internal Network

12. Input IP address range for lease and subnet mask.

13. Exclude specific IP addresses from the range set in previous section. Input IP address range for
exclude and click [Add]. Click [Next]

14. Input lease duration. Example : 8 hours for client can use an IP address from this scope.

15. Click [Next] button.

16. Input default gateway of your network. Click [Add] and click [Next]

17. Input Domain name and DNS server of your network.


If your Server is in AD Domain, it set automatically, make sure it and proceed next.

18. Input WINS Server. It's OK to keep empty here if you don't need it.

19. Click [Next] button.

20. Click [Finish] button to complete configuration.

21. New DHCP Scope has been added.

Task 3 : Client Obtain an IP from DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) Server

1. Same Network

Make sure the client and the server are on the same network where they can “see” each other. After you
have made sure of that part, proceed to configure your windows client to obtain IP Automatically as
explained below.

2. Network Settings

Go over to your taskbar, click on your Network icon and choose “Network & Internet Settings” as shown
below. A pop-up window will come forth.

3. On the pop up “Settings” window, choose “Ethernet” on the left pane. After that, choose “Change
Adaptor Options” on the right pane below “Related Settings “. A window with your Adaptors will
pop up.

4. Right-click the right Adaptor and choose “Properties” as shown below. A new window will pop
up.

5. On the new window, click on “Internet Protocol Version 4“, then click on “properties“.

6. On the new pop up window, leave everything as shown below and click “OK“

7. Command Prompt issue command ipconfig /renew to “ask” for a new IP from the DHCP Server.
IPv4 Address should IP address from the DHCP range. Example : 172.16.20.106

8. Confirm Leases from DHCP Server

Just to make sure everything went well and we are receiving our IPs from the DHCP Server as configured,
let us go over and confirm. Open your DHCP Server Manager in the Server and check on the leases.
