MY REFLECTION ON THE NOLI ME TANGERE

1. Examine the cover design of the Me Tangere. What is the over-all

theme of Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere? ( 5 points)

- The overall theme of Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere is Patriotism or the love and
commitment for one’s country as it talks about the Spanish colonialism to the Philippines
and how Filipinos fought for it. The novel also talked about religion and power that stated
how the Catholic Church dominate and rule the region and how the Spanish friars tried so
hard to prevent Filipino friars from ruling the church. The novel's central themes of
promoting nationalism and accepting change in oneself are still relevant today; we must
support our country by abiding by the law, promoting Philippine culture, and realizing
the country's true goal by assisting one another in its improvement.

women that are willing to submit
themselves to men; they symbolized
meekness, obedient, sensitive, and
emotional. Whereas, Doña Consolacion
 and Doña Victorina depicts a strong and
fierce women, with strong personality. The
role of women in Jose Rizal’s novel, “Noli
Me Tangere” is to be a good wife and

Life of an Indio ( Choose any In the novel, Elias is an example of an
character) indio character. Ibarra saved him from a
lethal crocodile attack, and he was so
thankful that he pledged to protect Ibarra
from his enemies. Elias was not blind to the
government's tyranny, which is why he
disagreed with the Catholic church and
Spanish power. As Indio, he lived a
revolutionary life since they were victims
of religion and Spanish government

3. Among the characters in the Noli Me Tangere, who do you consider as

your “best and worst character”? Support your claims by citing
scene/passages from the novel. ( 5 points)

- For me, the best character in Jose Rizal's novel Noli Me Tangere is none other than the
main protagonist, Crisostomo Ibarra; he is the hero in the story who saves the oppressed
Indio from the hands of the abusers and invaders. I also admire him because he is a
patient, wise, and intelligent man with a great deal of potential, and I aspire to be like
him. His character serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for Filipino
adolescents to strive for a better future for our country and to become better versions of
their selves. Padre Damaso is the worst character for me since he is a rude and egotistical
man. He acted superior to others because of the power bestowed upon him as a friar, and
he was opposed to natives acquiring education overseas.
