- The Rizal Law officially designated as Republic Act No. 1425

2.
- The Republic Act 1425, known as the Rizal Law, directs all the public and private academic
institutions in the Philippines to incorporate in their course of studies the subjects about our
national hero, José Rizal. Mainly because as students, and citizens of the Philippines, it's
important to appreciate and comprehend the life of José Rizal. It is necessary to know and
understand how his doings during his times impacted our lives today

- Based on what I have read, student may be exempt themselves from reading Rizal novels for
reasons of religious belief. The bill was eventually passed, but with a clause that would allow
exemptions to students who think that reading the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo would
ruin their faith.

4.
- Based on the law, you are allowed not to ready any novels of Rizal but I doesn’t mean that you
are exempted for taking the course of Rizal because it is one of the requisite subject before you
graduate. For student to gain an inspiring source of patriotism through the study of Rizal’s life,
works, and writings. So far, no student has yet officially applied for exemption from taking the
course of Rizal.

5. ’

- I think the reason why Rizal’s ideas may be mistaken for religious instruction is that the novels
of Rizal is viewed by the church as against God or sacred things, just like what Rizal have stated
his passage in Noli Me Tangere ”God cannot pardon a crime simply because we confess it to
the priest” and Archbishop Santos argued that the compulsory reading of the original versions
of Rizal’s novels would negatively affect students
