Choosing a career is not an easy thing to do. You don’t just look at the pay and the
security it offers you; you also need to consider your primary interests and passion which can
open doors to other careers that you have not considered.
With lots of professions in health care, you might consider getting into a health career.
There is a high demand for workers in the healthcare industry not just locally but also globally.
A career is an occupation or profession that requires special training. Health careers are
designed to familiarize students with the various careers in the medical profession and allied
health service.
1. Self- Assessment
Discover your personal strengths through self- assessments (values, interest,
personality testing skills, etc.
2. Career Exploration
You can explore different careers and work environments through career fairs, online
research, meetings, internship, alumni connections, professional resources.
3. Decision Making
Before you decide on taking a career that works for you, you can evaluate and narrow
down your options listing the pros and cons, comparing your personal strengths and
interests, and deciding which career fulfills both current and future goals.

Health career planning refers to an individual’s plan to make a career choice, growing
in the chosen career or making a career shift. Career planning involves the very important step
of self-assessment.
Developing a plan will help you maintain a sense of direction and keep you working
toward your end goal. Your personal health career plan should be well though, realistic and
most importantly, flexible. Do not look at it as a set-in-stone plan for your professional life,
rather as a road map that may grow and change as you move through the world.
A great health career plan relies on a strong foundation. The form of a health career
plan will depend on one’s personality and career goals. The career planning process are the

Career planning must start with a foundation that will develop an understanding of
yourself. It will enable you to formulate a plan to get there and prepare action points.

Career pathways are clusters of occupations that are grouped because of shared skills.
All pathways include a variety of occupations that require different levels of education, skills,
and training. Selecting a career pathway provides you with an area of focus, along with
flexibility and a variety of ideas to pursue personal development.
Health careers are getting important nowadays because of the abundance of health care-
related works. People are becoming more and more health conscious and they put health as a
priority in their lives. Those who work in the prevention and cure of illnesses or injuries are
considered important.

vision is to ensure that every person is healthy, free from any form of illness or disease. They

To start a career in health, you must go through several years of formal education, an
extensive clinical training, and finally, certification to be officially recognized and duly
licensed to practice as health professional.
