DESIGN OF PUMPS

Discharge :- 15 MLD = 15*106/(24*1000)

= 625.00Cum/h

= 173.60 l/s

Assume the pump working efficiency of 18hr/day

= 173.60*24/18 = 231.46

Add 15% losses in pumping sc line = 34.71

Total = 266.17

Say 280.00 l/s

Pumping Capacity required is 280.00 l/s

RISING MAIN

Q = AxV = (1.50)2 x A = 0.280Cum

A = 0.124m2

πxd2/4 = 0.124

d = 0.397

Say 400mmφ

Enhance 30% for future augmentation Q = 364.00 l/s

d = 450mmφ

Q = AxV = π/4x(0.45)2xV = 0.364

V = 2.28m/sec
HEAD LOSS IN PUMPING MAIN

Hl = 4xflv2/2gd = 4x0.01x6800x 2.28 /2x9.81x0.45 = 160.15

Add 15% losses in bends :- 1.15x160.15 = 184.17 mt

PUMPING UNIT

Suction Level : - 2.00RL

Pumping level :- 6.50RL

Delivery Head :- 139.91 say 140RL

WHP = 0.365x1000x140/75 = 681.00

BHP = 681/0.80 = 850 hp

= 300 hp pump 4 nos, Three working and one standby

Water required to be pumped up to Ch.6800m

LWL in the sump………… 4.00

RL at Ch. 6800m………… 58.00

Static Head = 54.00m

Frictional losses = 6.80x2.14 = 14.55

Total Head = 54.00+14.55 = 68.55m

Add for losses in bends and other unforeseen losses @ 15% = 10.28m

Total design head = 78.83m say 79.00m

Assuming single pump

Required HP of Pump = 1000*0.173*79.00/0.60*75 = 303.71 say 300.00Hp

Provide 4 nos of pumps three working and one standby.
