1.Enumerate 5 IoT devices and discuss what smart abilities do

they have.

A. SMART WATCHES

Many smartwatches are Bluetooth-capable. The watch

becomes, in effect, a wireless Bluetooth adaptor capable of
extending the capabilities of the wearer's smartphone to the
watch. Just as with your smartphone, Internet access enables a
smartwatch with whole world of potential capabilities, like
message notifications, GPS navigation and calendar
synchronization. And of course, a Bluetooth connection to your
phone means the watch can help you place calls or send and
receive messages.

B. SMART TV

A smart TV, also known as a connected TV (CTV), is a traditional

television set with integrated Internet and interactive Web 2.0
features, which allows users to stream music and videos, browse
the internet, and view photos. Smart TVs are a technological
convergence of computers, televisions, and digital media players.
Abilities: A smart TV is an internet-connected television that
offers a range of online features, such as on-demand content
from apps like BBC I Player, ITV Hub and All 4,access to
streaming services like Netflix, and the ability to connect to
other wireless devices like smartphones.

C. SMART FARMING
Farming can be a very high-tech endeavor these days. An increasing
number of farmers are using IoT- enabled tools to monitor weather,
soil composition, soil
moisture levels, crop health and growth, and livestock activity. The
data can also be
analyzed to determine the best time to harvest plants and create
fertilizer profiles and
schedules. Drones can also be used to collect photos and
atmospheric data.

D. HOME SECURITY

The Internet of Things is the key driver behind a completely smart

and
secure home. IoT connects a variety of sensors, alarms, cameras,
lights, and
microphones to provide 24/7/365 security all of which can be
controlled from a
smartphone. For example, the Ring doorbell camera security system
allows users to
see, hear, and speak to visitors at their door via a computer, tablet,
or mobile phone.

E. INDUSTRIAL SECURITY AND SAFETY

Sensors and cameras can be used to monitor the
perimeter of restricted areas and detect trespassers in non-
authorized areas. Small
leaks of hazardous chemicals or pressure build-ups can be
identified and fixed before
they become serious problems. Identifying and fixing leaks of fluids
reduces corrosion
and minimizes maintenance costs. IoT - enabled detection systems
are also used to
monitor chemical factories, nuclear facilities, and mining operations
2. Differentiate virtual reality technology and augmented
technology from one another. (give 5sentences each of the
technologies)
 Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is enhancing one’s experience with the real world

by using computer interfaces. In augmented reality, the subject
directly or indirectly interact with the real world while computer
simulated features are blended with the real world. A simple
example can be a sports match shown on TV. Apart from the real
match, additional information such as scores and statistics which
are supplementary components are shown. Today the technology is
more advanced, that now, it is possible to blend the supplementary
components very smoothly with the real world.

To implement augmented reality, the needed hardware components

include input devices, sensors, and processor and output devices.
Via sensors such as accelerometers, GPS, magnetic and pressure
sensors, supplementary information about the real world, which the
user cannot directly perceive through his sense organs, are
collected.

 Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is immersing the subject in a computer generated

world. Here the user can interact with the virtual world and he is
isolated from the real world. Since the user is separated from the
real world , there is no much need of sensors to collect the
information about the real world. However, input devices should be
there to let the user interact with the virtual world. A processor with
the help of software will render the virtual world based on the user
input. Then with the use of sophisticated output devices, the user is
immersed in the virtual world.
3.  What are the positive and negative implications of these
emerging trends to our culture and society.

 The positive effects of some of the emerging trends are to

increase the ability of people to use their minds to think and
to be creative. This requires work, mostly in the form of study
and research, and is therefore done by a small percentage of
societies.
 The negative effects of some of the emerging trends are to
decrease the ability to use their minds to think and be
creative. Some people take classes, but they will use internet
sites to have strangers do their homework for them, and they
therefore learn nothing.
