NARRATIVE REPORT

“School-Based Capacity Building Activities to Enhance the Instructional Delivery

of MORMS Science Teachers thru the Utilization of Appropriate Laboratory
Apparatuses.”

On the first day of this activity happened the orientation of the participants about the
ensuing activities to guide them along the way and to get their expectations, more
particularly the expected outputs. To ensure that the activity is worth the use of their
time, the following objectives were emphasized:
1. To equip the teachers with enhanced capabilities on pedagogical strategies in
teaching along with the effective use of laboratory apparatuses; and,
2. To develop functional contextual instructional materials ready for implementation
which will efficiently facilitate the instructional delivery of the Science curriculum.
3.
Ms. Amelia M. Gonzales, then proceeded to make a thorough presentation about the
unpacking of MELCS (most essential learning competencies) wherein the participants
would identify the specific topics for discussion. The presenter stressed that the
MELCS “serve as one guide for teachers as they address the instructional needs of
learners while ensuring that curriculum standards are maintained and achieved.” She
further stressed that essential learning competencies are defined as what the students
need, considered indispensable, in the teaching-learning process to building skills to
equip learners for subsequent grade levels and subsequently, for lifelong learning.

Next, Ms. Ronalyn Lirio, in Session 2, presented a comprehensive discussion on the

topic “Laboratory Apparatuses on the Racks” which identified the most common and
popular instruments (apparatuses) essential inside the laboratory to be used in
research, experimentation and testing. The participants were also given detailed
familiarization of the uses of each of them. The discussion also included safety
precautions in the use of said apparatuses with respect to the elements, materials and
chemicals to be utilized side by side with them.

The afternoon session (Session 3) continued with Ms. Brenda Montas painstakingly
facilitate the Worksheet in Format which carefully gave instructions on the correct
manner in recording the activities or experiments.
The first-day session series were highlighted by the final discussion of Ms. Marites
Ibieta, Head Teacher III, of the topic “Development of Laboratory Activities in Earth
Science for Grade 7-10.” Ms. Ibieta was fully methodical in her presentation and
elaborative handling of the topic and the resulting discussions.

The whole-day four-session activities ended with the presentation of each group of their
outputs from the discussions and from what they have recorded in the worksheet and
the things they learned from the activity.
