C. Solve the following problems using the 4 steps of George Polya.

1. Manny rode his bicycle 6km east , 4km west , and then 5km east. How far is he
from his starting point.

Step 1: Understand the Problem

We are looking for how far did Manny rode his bicycle from 6km east, 4 km west
and 5km east.

Step 2: Devise a plan (translate)

Let x = the distance Manny rode from starting point

Let y = 6km east and 5km east
Let z = 4 km west

Therefore , x = y + z

Step 3: Carry out the plan (Solve)

Substitute the value of y
x= y+z and z.
x = (6km east+ 5km east)+4km west Compute the sum of y and
x = (11km east)+4km west z.
x= 15km east/west

Step 4 : Look back ( check and interpret )

If x is the distance Manny rode from the starting point therefore Manny rode
15km east/west far from the starting point.

Final answer : 15km east/west

2. Mrs. Dizon withdrew ¼ of her savings early in July and later deposited a total of
Php 1,500 on four separate days.If her bank statement showed a balance of Php 3,
500 after four deposits , what was the balance immediately before her
withdrawal?

Step 1: Understand the problem

We are looking for Mrs.Dizon’s balance before her withdrawal of 1/4 from her
savings.

Step 2: Devise a plan (translate)

Let x = Mrs. Dizon’s balance before her withdrawal.

Let w = Php 1,500 her deposits on four separate days
Let y = Php 3,500 balance after 4 deposits
Let z = 1/4 or 25% her withdrawal from her savings

Therefore , x= z (w*4) +y

Step 3: Carry out the plan (solve)

x = z ( w*4) + y Substitute the value of w , z, and y.

Multiply the w to 4 days.
x = .25 (Php 1,500* 4)+ Php 3,500 The value of the w multiplied to 4 must
x = .25 (Php 6,000) + Php 3,500 multiply to the value of z.
x = Php 1,500 + Php 3, 500 And the outcome must be added to the value of
x = Php 6,000 y to get the value of x.

Step 4: Look back (check and interpret)

If x is Mrs.Dizon’s balance before her withdrawal , therefore her balance is Php

6,000 before her withdrawal of 1/4 from her savings.

Final Answer : Php 6,000

3. T ,U, W,X ,Y and Z are points on a circle.Each of these points is connected to

each other by a line segment. How many line segments are there?

Step 1: Understand the problem

This study source was downloaded by 100000837863698 from CourseHero.com on 03-05-2022 00:24:05 GMT -06:00

https://www.coursehero.com/file/77359053/MMW-QUIZ-3-DE-LA-CRUZ-LEONA-JEAN-Adocx/
We are looking for the number of line segments with points T, U, W,X,Y and Z
in a circle.

Step 2: Devise a plan (translate)

Let x = the total number of line segments

Let y = 1 line segment with point T and U
Let w = 1 line segment with point U and W
Let v = 1 line segment with point W and X
Let z = 1 line segment with point X and Y
Let u = 1 line segment with point Y and Z
Let t = 1 line segment with point Z and T

Therefore, x = the sum of y ,w,v,z,u,t

Step 3: Carry out the plan ( solve )

Substitute the value of y,
x=y+w+v+z+u+t w,v,z,u and t
x = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 +1 + 1 Add the value of y, w,v,z,u
x=6 and t to get the value of x.

Step 4 : Look back ( Check and interpret )

If x is the total number of line segments in a circle with points T, U, W,X,Y and
Z , therefore the number of line segments in a circle is 6.

Final Answer: 6 line segments

D. Find the solution to the following recreational problems and give your answer:

1. If
7 = 70
6 = 54
5 = 40
4 = 28

Then

2 = 10 Solution : (2 * 5 ) = 10

2. If
1 + 4 =5
2 + 6 =14
3 + 8 =27

4 + 9 =40

Then

4 + 20 = 84

3. If
1 + 2 =9
2 + 5 =21
5 + 11 =48
7 +15 =66

Then

4+20=72 Solution : (4* 20) + 4 = 84

E. Give some examples of a real life situation illustrating each of the following:

1. Inductive reasoning
We had our midterm exams yesterday consist of 6 subjects .Today I got the result of the
4 subjects , if I passed those 4 subjects therefore I will pass the remaining 2 subjects.

2. Deductive reasoning
All of the humans are Solution
mortals. :I (4+20) 3 = 72 Therefore , I am mortal.
am a human.

3. Analogy
My mom is a good housewife and cooks very well.Therefore , I will be a good
housewife and a great cook in the future.

4. Intuition
I will pass the midterm exam because I wished it to the shooting star last night.
