Activity No 1
Ans.
1. Communication skills
Good teachers with strong communication skills are better prepared to
instruct, mentor, and advise students. However, communication can be
particularly challenging when working with special needs students.
2. Adaptability
To maintain a classroom’s professional standards, teachers must adapt to any
situation. Classrooms can be unpredictable, and every day is different from
the previous one.
3. Devotion to improvement
As an educator, you must never restrict yourself to learning and working
towards professional development. You are a role model for your students
and someone they look up to, so you must be open to improving personally
and professionally whenever an opportunity arises.
4. Organizational skills
Organizational skills are essential when planning classroom activities and
balancing the needs of your students. Since special needs students all have
varying disabilities, you must plan well to cater to every child’s needs.
5. Patience
Teaching students with special needs is not easy and requires plenty of
patience. These students may typically take longer to perform a simple task or
understand basic concepts.
6. Creativity
An important quality a special education teacher must possess is creativity. All
students have different learning styles. Teachers must have the ability to
adapt their lessons in a way that it plays to each child’s strengths.
7. Dedicated
Many teachers continue to work off-hours on IEPs, correcting homework and
promoting progress among students.
8. Understanding
A good teacher has to be understanding: not an understanding person, but an
understanding teacher. Explicitly or implicitly the good teacher knows that the
child needs both understanding and a clear structure to be secure and grow.
9. Compassionate
A compassionate teacher teaches from the heart. The heart knows what it is
like to have a passion for the subject. The compassionate kindly teaches,
guiding, and allowing students to explore to discover errors and revelations.
10. Approachable
If students dare to ask you something quickly, this contributes to a safe
learning environment. It stimulates the students’ motivation to participate in
the lectures.
