The objective of the study investigate and describe “The Role of physical Activity in School The
perception of Teachers”. For this reason Data has been collected from 50 Physical teachers of 50
various Government High School district Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai, through Structured
Questionnaire Data is collected under five point liker’s scale. The result shows that Most of
teacher`s believed that physical activities is not merely physical advantages of students but also
physical activities positively effects students learning, Behaviors, Academic performances and
social life of the students. Mostly the teachers believed that students’ contributions in physical
activities prevent themselves from different type diseases and drug abuses. For healthy lifestyle
the contribution of physical activities and exercises are very essential. In the upcoming period for
students absolutely cause their physical and mental ability in constructive mode and deliver good
personalities to the societies. The physical activities are very less in KP and District Mardan due
to the non-availability of grounds and related resources. The conducting of regular sports
activities ground and related resources are very less. The evidence of this research study is
essential for the development of project of strengthening the role of physical exercise in
improving fitness, mental health and learning among Mardan students. High quality education
entail the country’s growth. The consistent bachelor’s program be increase and encouraged in
order to groom and provide more eligible graduates for the area of physical education and
athletics.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
It is extensively said that healthy body has healthy mind. It demonstrate the importance
of physical exercise and their effects on pupils’ behavior, fitness and subsequently learning and
success at high school level at district Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai. If a student take part in daily
games and workout, he must be perform to be a man of fun and fitness. If we could check the
foreign news and research it shows that 80% of population of the world is interested in games
and athletics. In addition the 80% of the participation of the public, media obtains substantial
rewards from games as they are telecasting on line. The percentage is clear in terms of value of
athletic activity and world associations in terms of games. It shows vital role in the instructional
process by improving physical activity and health.as well as developing physical competences
and trust in students as they gain range of motor skills.
This study is commenced to discover the advantages and disadvantages of physical exercise at
the school level as well as the awareness of teacher related to sports and physical activities.
Physical education enhance the whole school curriculum by assimilating and linking information
from other teaching areas to physical activities and comprehension of motor skills. Physical
activities improves self-esteem, healthy social growth, and cooperative behavior (Green, 2008).
Moreover, students who are cerebrally involved and fit have higher point averages than
those who are less fit, the enhancement in academic, emotional and physical health is possible
through physical exercise (Hennessy, 1996). It is broadly recognized that physical education can
and should play a serious role in the growth of fitness and behavior among the students. Health
promotion has been known as “the primary aim of physical education in many countries
(Telama, 2005).
9
Policies that inspired physical exercise in schools are critical in answering the assumed
obesity/ health prevalent. Sports teaching methods has two basic goals: People educating by
sports are physically active. Physical activities education require teaching skills, beliefs and
materials about physical activities, secure lifestyle and how to deliver almost oneʼs own health.
Policies that encourage physical exercise in schools are critical in solving the alleged
obesity/health epidemic. Sports pedagogy has two primary goals: educating people to be
physically active and educating people by sports. Physical activity education entails teaching
skills, beliefs, and information about physical activities, safe lifestyles, and how to provide about
one's own health. Educating by sport entails using sport as a tool to promote the professional
development of students and youth. It is possible to teach students emotional and communication
skills by athletics, as well as the importance of physical exercise and a healthier way of life as
There is excess of research to support the idea that aerobic movement are useful to one’s
health. Physical exercise, for instance can assists in minimization of cardiovascular diseases,
type 2 diabetes, numerous tumors, metabolic syndrome, and neurological disorder such as
anxiety and depression. Dustan et al., 2007; Katzmarzyk et al., 2009; Jaakkola et al., 2013)
Physical movements have a positive impact on the composition of the body, such as density.
(Bouchard et al., 2007; World Health Organization, 2001; Jakola et al., 2013)
The historical development in cultural perceptions of physical exercise has been used to
characterize today’s key pattern and challenges in physical education instruction. Physical
practices’ importance has not always been well appreciated by their practitioners or the general
public. One big issue has been an individual’s lack of veneration for his participation in physical
10
activities. For instance, one can never practice the algebra he or she educated in school again, but
may have uncountable applications for hand –eye coordination and marginally maximized lungs
ability (Hennessy, 1996). The significance and quality of physical activity is now extensively
physical challenges of everyday life, and selections for the utilization of free time. It integrates
the chances to engage in a number of health–promoting physical activities settings with the
attainment of motor skills essential for the fruitful accomplishment of daily responsibility
(Hennessy, 1996).
Sports has also revealed the need to include other socially excluded people. Social status, gender
and disability are major obstacles to cultivating young people’s physical abilities, attitudes, and
inspiration for sports activities (Kirk, 2004; In Crosby, 2009). Therefore, there is evidence that it
is crucial to improve the level of physical activities in any area. The research focuses on the
health, behavioral growth, habits and well-being of district Mardan high school students. Various
risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, similarly physical inactivity and unhealthy intake
patterns, and identified in childhood (Harris et al., 1997). Physical education in schools desires a
healthy outlook about physical activity as well as equipment. As a result, school at all stages
should foster and stimulate healthy attitudes toward physical activity by presenting chances to
study physical skills and contribute in physical activities( American Heart Association, 1992)
Involvement of athletic activity improves physical strength and boots mental clarity ; it is
common saying that a sound mind is in a sound body. Students’ grade point averages in school
has been improved by physical education (International society of Sport Psychology, 1992).
On the other hand the existing research as only focused on teachers’ perception but can’t
be restrict to them. For the provision of best probable resources to the local students in in school

promises as well as in the local community grounds the youth affairs and local sports department
is working on priority basis. The District youth and sports officers are continuously conducting
surveys with the assistance of local administration to cover up the needs of local youth but it’s
not the duties of the local senior players are also to contribute in the working papers with the
department so to provide best possible resources to resident players and make District Mardan
healthy physically and mentally. It plays a vital role in the instructional process by improving
physical activities and health, as well as developing physical capabilities and trust in the pupils
as they get a range of motor skills. This study is started to explore the advantages and
disadvantages of physical exercises in the school as well as the perception of teachers related to
Physical exercise has the capability to positive effect to positively affect children by
instilling good behaviors that can last a lifetime. Teachers may play an important role in
influencing children's physical activity habits, fitness, and learning since they spend the majority
of their time at school. Taking time away from physical education can have a detrimental effect
on standardized test results as well as on teachers' end-of-year assessments. The changes make it
difficult to engage in physical exercise and can lead to the increasing obesity epidemic. The aim
of addressing the problem is to get a better understanding of high school teachers' views of
students' physical activity during school hours.
The purpose of this study is to get insight into physical education teacher’s prospects of
physical activities during school timing, as well as the impact that physical activities may have
on factors such as students’ academic performance and mental health. The objective of this study
is to enhance to current research by exploring instructor points of view on significance of
physical practice at school, likely perceived gains of assimilating physical activities on regular
12
basis at school atmosphere, and methods that physical activities can be used to complement or
expand school activities.
The purpose of this study is to know about teachers perceptions of physical exercise at
school timing as well as the effect physical activity may have on aspect such as mental health
and students’ academic achievement. The objective of this study is to contribute to existing
research by investigating teacher’s perspective on the role of physical exercise at school,
potential perceived benefits of incorporating physical activities in to daily school environment,
and ways that physical activities can be functional to increase or enhance school activities.
2. To study teachers perception about the role of physical activities on students’ academic
performance.
3. To examine teachers perceptions about the role of physical activities on students behavior.
What is the teacher perceptions of the role of physical activity on student’s social life?
1. What is the perception of teachers that impact of physical activities on student character
during the class room?
2. What is the effect of physical activities on the student’s temperament?
1.6 Delimitation
The existing research required a lot of time and financial support but the shortage of time and
resources only fifty physical education teachers from 50 different government high schools of
District Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai. This study should be also carried out in other department but
we have just selected one department.

CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 classroom and physical activities
Exercise should not be considered in isolation. It is based on the lessons and activities of
the teacher, allowing students to move through the learning environment. Stretching breaks,
social exercises that involve classroom movements, or activities that bring learning to learning
are all examples of this. Exercise events will be included, where students go directly for health
purposes. As a result, regular physical activity does not need to be a definite exercise, but rather
a powerful teacher posting to help students with self-control and empathy and the need for their
bodies to move regularly. Students' understanding of their bodies can be openly trained in
athletics and fitness schools, or it can be used in combat to motivate students in the classroom.
Thomas and McDougall explain the importance of physical activity in the classroom, adding that
it is believed that some 200 percent of the children's daily activities are planted in the school. As
a result, the school is an effective intervention point that can be used effectively to teach students
how to live a healthy lifestyle, including physical activity. Teachers can meet the physical needs
become more important for children in their normal lives. Janssen and LeBlanc (2010) found that
"exercise is linked to many health benefits for school-age children." In his paper “Impact of
14
Physical Activity on Mental Well-Being,” Dr. Kenneth notes that this inactive lifestyle can lead
to “illness and death from heart disease.” These effects, however, are the result of high levels of
unemployment, emphasizing that low-level jobs are the main causes of obesity and diabetes.
These important issues in the lives of students today are closely related to the transformation and
expansion of technology. As a result, because young people spend most of their time in school, it
is important that their time be spent helping the students' physical health.
The literature promotes the use of movement to benefit students' mental and emotional well-
being in addition to their physical well-being. Students, as mentioned earlier, spend most of their
lives in school and in the classroom. Each child has different learning needs and skills, as well as
different needs for self-control and mental health awareness. It plays an important role in the
teaching process by improving physical activity and health, as well as developing physical
fitness and confidence as students gain a range of motor skills. This study was conducted to
evaluate the pros and cons of physical activity at school level and the teacher's perspective on
There are a number of benefits to combining exercise and exercise in the school environment and
in teaching. Children are always on the move and often find it difficult to stay still. Students may
find it difficult to keep quiet and to focus on the teacher. They may be unable to concentrate and,
as a result, be distracted or even disturbed by doctrines. Students who have had the option of
roaming the classroom are doing better in the classroom. This change in behavior after being
allowed to move around, as noted by Tomporowski (2003), suggests that there is a link between
Another area in which physical activity and physical activity in the school environment may be
to facilitate student attention. In order to reach learners with different learning styles and skills,
teachers need to incorporate a variety of strategies into their classrooms. Exercise and movement
can help teachers differentiate their teaching from the classroom in order to enhance students'
ability to concentrate on what they are learning. In his study "Effects of Acute Bouts of Exercise
“Studies have shown that the frequency of behavioral problems in adolescents was significantly
lower following exercise sessions than non-exercise days,” he notes (Tomporowksi, 2003). He
concludes that physical activity and exercise help children to relax and to concentrate.
The role of physical activity in this study gave students the opportunity to release energy that
The benefits of exercise and class movement go beyond simply changing students' behavior and
helping them to concentrate. Movement also allows benefits that are not always created

During their formative years, students will face a variety of situations that will test their

Student social life may benefit from exercise and physical activity. Collecting games or whole
class breaks or student-led exercises can help students engage with their peers inside and outside
the classroom. According to Tomporowski's research, "children who engage in physical activity
that promote collaboration, sharing, and learning to obey rules learn skills that translate
classroom settings" (2008). According to the study, as students participate in exercise, their self-
Exercise and walking contribute to the well-being of the class. Previous effects of class
movement, such as improved behavior and efficiency, all contribute to a student's success in the
classroom. Learners' reading skills will improve once they are able to move around. Jenkins,
Mulrine, and Prater (2008) discuss this in their paper, noting that action "will increase activity in
the brain areas involved in memory, concentration, spatial vision, speech, and emotions." As a
result, physical activity may be closely related to other aspects of a student's life, such as
Physical activity and training, according to studies, can enhance a student's performance in the
classroom, and a teacher's implementation of it can support their students' overall education.
As previously stated, students with all cognitive levels benefit from movement and physical
activity in the classroom. In a study of children with autism aged five to seven who were given
time to move, it was discovered that antecedent activity resulted in decreases in self-stimulatory
diminished directly after bursts of physical exercise," implying that "implementing pulses of
physical activity and movement will be of great help to students whose exceptionalities or
17
special needs cause self-stimulatory behavior."Movement can allow children with special needs,
such as autism, to self-regulate, which can lead to greater attention in the classroom.
Students with disabilities can have difficulty focusing in learning for long periods of time.
Students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), for example, often exhibit
Students with ADHD can be punished for their inability to pay attention or for disrupting the
rhythm of the curriculum. Jenkins, Marline, and Prater (2008) describe in their paper how
“teachers often ask students with ADHD to make up...assignments during non-academic courses,
lunch, gym time, or after school.” This behavior does not benefit the instructor because it does
not "offer the students the ability to partake in physical activity that provide them with sufficient
time for movement and give their minds a required break from academics." There is also proof
that preventing students with ADHD from exercising can trigger certain classroom-related
issues” (Jenkins et Al, 2003).This study stresses the importance of allowing students to be
On the other side the current research as only focused on teacher’s perception but can’t be
limited to them. The local sports and youth affairs department are also working to provide best
possible resources to the local students in schools level as well as in the community grounds. The
District youth and sport officer are regularly conducting surveys with the help of local
administration to core up the needs of local youth but it’s not only their responsibilities the local
senior players are also to be involved in the working papers with the department so to provide
best possible resources to local players and make District Mardan healthy physically and
mentally.
18
The sports grounds are very limited in District Mardan or in the ownership of private persons the
local peoples are also very important to look after the matters of providing lands to sports
grounds which is the better way to provide sports opportunities for the local schools players of
District Mardan KP

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter deals with method and procedure of research which has been separated in the
following sections.
It is the procedure through which a research is carried out. The first is quantitative and
the second one is qualitative. Normally, qualitative RM is used in literary research, while
quantitative research is used in linguistic research. In this study quantitative research approach is
used, which believes in ultimate fact, the importance will be on objective research to recognize
the solution to the elevated questions, which are the part of physical activity. On student health,
student behavior, and academic performance of the students with perception of the teachers.
Five-point Likert scale were sued to assessed the respondents’ attitude about physical exercise
and show their level of agreement and disagreement with each question. A questionnaire was
distributed among fifty (50) teachers of various (50) government boys high schools in District
For everyone physical activities are very crucial in their life because contribution in physical
activities people physically, mentally and socially feeling fit and fresh and they stop themselves
This research was carried out in one tehsil in District Mardan. Fifty 50 physical education
teachers from fifty 50 different government high schools in District Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai.
The sample should have a proper presentation of the entire Tehsil Takht Bhai District Mardan.
To collect data for this research project for this purpose a total of 15 related questions were
included. For the respondent to collect data a closed questionnaire was developed.
3.4 FRAMEWORK
The questionnaire is used to conduct this study. The term quantitative approaches refers
to an approaches and patterns that began in specific field of research. It is necessary to examine
the questionnaire materials carefully to determine if the curriculum exactly characterize the
current affairs. Subsequently this research is restricted to essay composition skills, writing skills
may not be studied. A questionnaire was distributed to collect primary data for this study in
20
Government High Schools in District Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai, which is located in Pakistan’s
province KP
The tools requires for the use of a questionnaire, also known as an attitudinal scale. The
questionnaire consist on the statements on which opinions were expected on five point liker’s
scale such as Agreed, strongly agreed, undecided, disagreed and strongly disagreed. The study
population comprised 50 teachers from different high school in District Mardan Tehsil Takhat
The results are presented in the tables’ base on the responses of the teachers to a
questionnaire. This study has also been tested using methodological measures. The suggestions
was taken from the review of evidence and observations, and it serves as base for the
constructing of recommendation.

The suggestion of escalating the number of universities with facilitating units of physical
education and sports science would become more reasonable and carry to the schools levels. It is

Conclusion
According to the literature on the significance of physical exercise in school and teachers
perception, physical exercise is a realistic instructional procedure worth adopting. We shall learn
about students’ behaviors, fitness, personalities and academic success from the abovementioned
questionnaire, similarly how it stop students from misusing, abusing drugs and constricting

leading a happier life on daily basis. It demonstrate that some of the performances support in
enhancing students’ mental health, character development, academic success, social life social
Totally the literature on the benefits of incorporating physical exercise and mobility into the
instructional procedure with increase on consistent and proper consequences may be located in
students attitude, study room getting to know how and intellectual well-being, scholar
recognition, and students allover well-being . Physical education is endorsed in schools for
young generation as a way to improve their common fitness. In spite of the fact that it is an
initiative, there is a void inside the researchers on how teachers need to include this exercise into
their classroom without it being its personal independent entity. Individually teachers and
students techniques has flaws. Base on the results of this research I would recommend instructors
to include small part of physical exercise and movement into their students’ classroom on formal
foundation, both as part of a lesson and on their personal, for the sake of school students’ joy,
The existing study is limited to local level schools of district Mardan Tehsil Takht Bhai KP but if
