Introduction

Although they are common insects, ants have certain distinct abilities. Around the world,
there are more than 10,000 different species of ants. They can make up up to half of all insects
present in some tropical forests, where they are particularly common. While some ant species have
colonies supported by a single queen, others have several queens, there are many different ant
species. Although there are about 23 different kinds of ants in the Philippines, we often find only a
small number of them in our buildings.

According to Simothy L., Mahomoodally F.,Neeto H., (2018), Ants (Technomyrmex

difficilis and Solenopsis geminata) are insects often found in domestic kitchens of Mauritius.
Unfortunately, they harbour disease-causing organisms and can potentially transfer these pathogens
to food.
