INTRODUCTION
We feel our self-fortunate enough for investigating the sub-Soil strata FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF RUSIKULYA RIVER CROSSING TOWER LINE AT- PANDIA,GANJAM. BERHMPUR, ODISHA.The sub-
soil investigation works were taken up by Maks Consultant, Satyavihar, Bhubaneswar,
Odisha. The proposed project site was an undulated roughly level ground.
FIELD WORK
1. SELECTION OF BOREHOLE
Two numbers of Bore-holes has been selected by the Engineer in charge in order to
obtain comprehensive sub-soil data for this site with a provision of borings up to 10.0
meters depth.
(I) BORING:
It is the main part of sub- soil investigation work as the soil samples were collected
for different tests at different levels. The sub-soil exploration work at the proposed site was
carried out by wash boring per IS: 1892 – 1979 .
The details of the test results has been shown test result sheet separately.
2. NATURAL MOISTURE CONTENT:
The natural moisture content were determined from different soil samples of the
Borehole at different depths as per IS: 2720(Pt-II)-1973: The results of all these tests has
been annexed separately.
3. DETERMINATION OF BULK DENSITY:
The Bulk densities has been determined from different soil samples of the Boreholes
at different depths in the laboratory from the soil samples as per IS: 2720(Pt-II)-1973.
4. DETERMINATION OF SPECIFIC GRAVITY:
The specific gravity of the soil samples has been determined at different levels as per
IS: 2720(Pt-III)-1980. The result of all these tests has been annexed separately.
Unconsolidated and un-drained tests were carried out from soil samples collected as per Pt-
X , XI ,XII, XIII,& part-35 of IS: 2720 with three different cell pressures of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5
kg/sq.cm and result are shown separately in tabular and graphical manner.
8. BEARING CAPACITY
The supporting power of a soil or rock is referred to as its bearing capacity .The term
bearing capacity is defined after attaching certain qualified prefixes. The allowable N . S. B.
C / SBC of soil strata has been computed at different depth using SPT value “N” and index
parameters as per the requirements of IS: 2131 & 6403 – 1981 considering the shallow
type foundation at different depths with taking factor of safety ” f “of soil samples of the
bore holes at different depths. The result of all NSBC / SBC of all these tests has been given
separately.

In this bore hole it was seen that two layers i.e sandy clay & Sand has seen from top
soil level up to explored depth of 10.0 mtr. (The details of soil layer have been mention in
Field bore log chart). The SPT values “N” has not exceed the limiting value of 50 in this bore
hole. The N values show regular trend with different depth of bore hole. The DFS Values of
bore hole soil samples are lower with limiting zone. The allowable S. B. C of soil strata has
been computed at different depth using SPT value “N” , C, phi and index parameters as per
the requirements of IS: 2131 & 6403 – 1981 considering the shallow type foundation at
different depths are shown graphically below.
