BUS TERMINAL DESIGN

CONSIDERATIONS

Accessibility
BEFORE
The bus terminal has a deficiency in providing accesibility to the
PWD’s. The existing stairs and hand rails causes bariers to
childrens and PWD/s . Low –slope ramps, narrow door ways, steps
and lack of signage are the major problems of this bus terminal.
Accessibility in all areas of the building are separate and not
equally distributed.
AFTER
To address and resolve these issues: Installation of standard
ramp with handrail on every entrance and exit of the building.
Tactile pavement must also be implemented to blind people
that way they can locate the site easily. Clear signages so that
users can identify the place to where they will go. Clear passage
and big open spaces in the entrance and exits must be
implemented.
Light and ventilation
BEFORE
The bus terminal is lacks natural light and ventilation. Existing
poles are outdated and not sustainable enough. The area has a
poor ventilation combining hot and humid climate causing health
problems. Heat from the air conditioners causes temperature
increase and environmental problems. Existing excessive noise
from the nearby major road.
AFTER
To address and resolve these issues: Installation of skylight roofs
will help us to save power and energy within the building. These
will provide and resolve the lack of natural light of rooms. Large
windows and curtain walls to boost light and ventilation of the
area, giving protection hazard. Keeping air and water out of the
wall. These also improve the appearance and aesthetic of the
building.
Circulation
BEFORE
Improper bus stops and high traffic flow conditions are one of the
major concerns of the building. Lack of pedestrian lanes between
the terminal and transfer points. Lack of clear signage and path
for users. Small parking areas and waiting areas cannot
accommodate large volume of people duringpeak season or rush
hours.
AFTER
Proper zoning of people and other amenities of the terminal such
as: Transfer points, ticketing area, waiting area and etc. Clear
pathways and open spaces to the public. Modification of each
space requirments of the area to maximize its use and purpose.
